Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedie Donaway.
Hi Kennedie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hmm, where do I start. I feel like there are so many things that led me to this exact moment. But, how I ended up in Dallas? How I ended up in Insurance Sales? How I ended up being co-founder of a social group in Dallas? Let’s get into it! Originally from Louisiana, and then living in Houston throughout my grade school years, I’m not new to Texas. I graduated from college with a Bachelors in Communication Science Disorders, and worked in my field as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant for about 4 years post grad. I was so passionate about the work I did, but I was lacking direction. I felt that there was a ceiling on upward growth within speech therapy, and I wasn’t sold on going back to school for my Masters.
Personal life led me to move to Dallas the summer of 2024, and I worked my last SLPA job in 2025. I didn’t know how I was going to pivot out of education, but after getting close insight on how working in a high level sales position can transform your life mentally, and financially, I stepped out on faith and made the career change. I currently work in personal lines insurance, which isn’t the most glamorous job. But, I love the grind, I love being in control of my income, and I love all the networking that comes with the role. Being a people person, the job doesn’t feel like work most days.
This job maintains the stability that I need, but I am a creative at heart. I jumped the gun a little, let’s talk about my social group, “The Art Of”. My longtime college friend and I woke up on a random day in April of 2025 and decided we were capable of hosting events. We collaborated with the owner of TF Gallery in Dallas, and curated a wellness event centered around self care, pilates, and community. The event was a hit! Opening doors for so many more collaborative opportunities. We are coming up on a year since our first event, so be on the lookout for what’s in store!
All in all, Louisiana has my heart, Houston will always be a second home, but Dallas is growing on me, and I can see myself creating something really big here.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Ha! Not at all. The struggle was always internal. Figuring out what my next move was, what my purpose is, and how can I get to the next level. I think my discernment, and personal confidence has wavered tremendously since moving to Dallas. A new environment will do that to ya. But, with all the up in downs within myself, coming out on the other side of it has only strengthened my mind, my capacity, and my desire. I wouldn’t change my journey one bit.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The mantra at my company is to ‘make insurance sexy.’ And I try my best. The name of the game is networking within this industry, and that’s how you make it fun. I partner with realtors and lenders all over the state of Texas and Louisiana to create a partnership where they trust that I will provide their clients with great customer service, coverage, and prices for their homes, cars, etc. I shop the market for my clients across 40 different carriers to take away that burden while they’re in their homebuying process. I get to go to events, meet super successful individuals, and become apart of some elite teams right here in Dallas. I love what I do, and at the core of it all, I get to meet new people on a daily basis which keeps energies high! Coming from an educational background, into a fast paced sales role, I can proudly say that I have seen upward growth within my personal network, and quota numbers month over month. I was shocked, but also fueled because I knew I could only go up from here.
As for my creative ventures with ‘The Art Of’, we are a social group here in the city. Our mission is to constantly create noise around art focused or art adjacent areas, while providing experiences in those spaces that are unique and captivating. The goal is to offer something new with every event we host. Thinking outside the box to ensure that what we curate is as original as it can get. Exposure for all is another aspect. We love collaborating with other small businesses to provide our customers with an array of different products, vibes, and people in one space. This business is a true outlet from my corporate 9-5. I can’t wait to see the brand blossom into something huge!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my faith, and just remaining authentic to who I am. My life is far from perfect, but I think things organically occur for me because I am organic (and also God’s favor). I don’t morph myself to fit in spaces that aren’t true to who I am. Like I said earlier, finding the core of who I am has been a journey, but once you are on the other side of that the world is truly your oyster. I have been the same person all my life, in my opinion at least. I think those close to me can attest that I have maintained the foundation of who I am from a child, to a teenager, to an adult. I know my path is already created by God; all I have to do is show up as the most intentional version of myself and all my heart’s desires will come true. Be you, that’s the cheat code.
