Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Jewell
Hi Kristin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From school field trips with the old disposable cameras to nights out with girlfriends in my late teens and early 20’s, and, especially, when my 3 kids came into my life, I have always had a camera in my hand. Photography has always been a passion of mine even when I didn’t realize it on my own. Once my kids got a little older, I needed something that was just mine so my first thought was photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a photographer in an area as big as Dallas is a struggle. To be honest, it probably will always be a struggle. “Word of mouth” is a tricky thing when trying to promote what I do because a photographer can be found anywhere. Getting my name out there, trying to set myself a part from the rest, definitely takes a lot of perseverance and patience. I’m hoping the best is yet to come.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love sports photography. I love the action, the heart stopping moments, the overall FEELINGS that come from a game. As a mom of boys, I know those moments and feelings well. I also believe I have a knack for capturing the random moments that no one else may see on the sideline, in a dug out, or on the court. Those moments can mean just as much as a win or loss.
I’m also a people person. Event photography can be just as rewarding, whether I have to blend into the background or be in peoples’ faces. You never know who you will meet and connect with that can lead to other connections and possibly lifelong relationships.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that not everyone will choose me and that’s ok. When there are tons of choices, most often it’s like a lottery. You win a few and lose quite often. Within the ‘not being chosen’ realm, it can be disheartening and might make me question my work. That’s also ok. It just makes me work harder, change some things, and be that much more ready for the person that says yes.
