Life & Work with Lamonica Williams of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamonica Williams.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 15 years, specializing in naturally textured hair, including curls, kinks, coils, and locs. My journey started as a stylist passionate about educating my clients, but it has since evolved into entrepreneurship, product development, and business strategy. I own Planted Hair Co., a salon dedicated to making high-quality natural hair care accessible, and I’m also building a digital education platform to help people care for their hair while creating profitable beauty businesses.

Beyond styling hair, my mission is to bridge the gap between knowledge and execution—whether that’s helping a client grow healthy hair or guiding a beauty professional to build a successful career. My work has expanded into content creation, marketing, and mentorship, and I’ve positioned myself as an expert by embracing both the artistry and business of beauty.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges was transitioning from being a hairstylist to a business owner. Doing hair and running a business are two different skill sets, and I had to learn how to manage operations, hire a team, and market myself beyond the chair. Another challenge has been shifting my focus from working in my salon to working on my business. I love what I do, but I realized that to create real impact and scale my vision, I couldn’t stay behind the chair full-time.

Building my digital business also came with obstacles—shifting from giving away free value to converting followers into paying customers was a learning curve. I had to rework my marketing, refine my offers, and create a system that nurtures and sells effectively.

Despite these challenges, I’ve learned that setbacks are part of mastery. Every misstep taught me something that moved me forward, and I now see failure as part of the process rather than something to avoid.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a textured hair expert, salon owner, and entrepreneur dedicated to educating, innovating, and elevating the natural hair industry. I own Planted Hair Co., a salon specializing in curls, kinks, coils, and locs, offering a high-quality, streamlined experience for naturally textured hair. Beyond the salon, I create educational content and digital products that help both clients and beauty professionals understand hair care and build profitable businesses.

I specialize in:
• Textured hair health & growth (loose natural hair and locs)
• Scalp health & inflammation education
• Microlocks & Sisterlocks
• Digital marketing & business strategy for beauty entrepreneurs

I’m known for making hair education engaging and easy to understand, blending expertise with a touch of humor to connect with my audience. Whether through social media, my digital products, or my salon, my mission is to bridge the gap between knowledge and execution—helping people grow both healthy hair and profitable businesses.

What I’m Most Proud Of

I’m most proud of taking control of my career and creating multiple streams of income in the beauty industry. I started as a stylist behind the chair, but I’ve expanded my reach through salon ownership, digital education, and content creation. I didn’t just build a salon—I built a brand and a system that allows me to impact more people than I ever could with my hands alone.

Opening Planted Hair Co. was a huge moment for me, but I’m also proud of the digital business I’m building, helping clients and beauty professionals gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed in their hair and business journeys.

What Sets Me Apart
1. Education Meets Execution – I don’t just style hair; I teach people why their hair behaves the way it does and how to care for it long-term. My approach is rooted in science, strategy, and real-world experience.
2. Mastery Through Failure – I openly share my journey, including the failures that shaped me. I believe that trial, error, and adjustment are the keys to mastery, and I encourage others to embrace the process.
3. Dual Expertise – I’ve mastered both the hair industry and business strategy, allowing me to serve both clients and beauty professionals in a way that’s unique and valuable.
4. A Community-Driven Approach – I’m not just building a business—I’m building a movement that empowers people to take control of their hair, their knowledge, and their earning potential.

At the core of it all, I’m here to help people grow—whether it’s their hair, their confidence, or their income.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t just about money or popularity—it’s about impact and ownership. It’s being in control of my time, building a brand that serves people, and creating a legacy that outlasts me. Success means seeing my salon run efficiently without me having to be in it daily, growing my online education business, and helping other stylists and entrepreneurs make money while doing work they love.

Most importantly, success is about freedom—freedom of time, financial freedom, and the freedom to create the life I want while helping others do the same.
