Today we’d like to introduce you to Laren Ozzie.
Hi Laren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was 16 years old, I walked into a salon with the hopes of being hired as a receptionist so I could start my hair journey. I asked “Are y’all hiring?” and a stylist there replied “Can you start Friday?”. She hired me on the spot and took me under her wing to which I’ll forever be grateful. I enrolled in hair school before I graduated high school. At 18, I was going to cosmetology school full time 8:30am-5:00pm and working at bars/restaurants 6:00pm-2:00am. Living on my own, putting myself through school was hard. With a 17% graduation rate at my school, it felt like a miracle to have completed it. Getting behind the chair in salons around Dallas was an amazing growing experience. At 22, I went independent in the salon suite world. Ten years later , Hair by Laren has continued to flourish and bring me much joy. There have been many obstacles, trials and tribulations that have happened the last 16 years of my journey but doing hair has always led me to be exactly where I need to be. Following my passion has given me more gifts, opportunities, and connections than I could have ever dreamed of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has never been a smooth road, yet hair always leads me to the right road . I could write a 10,000 page book of all the struggles that have come along the way but I truly believe that things happen FOR us, not TO us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Dallas hairstylist of 14 years professionally. I was trained to do all services so I can proudly say that I know how to do almost anything cosmetology related. I prefer haircuts and hair color that are tailored to the client for longevity but that doesn’t stop me from waxing your nose hairs at the same time. In a hair world where every stylist has a specialty , I think what sets me apart is I can do what ever is asked of me.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel that my most important quality to my success has been my relentless work ethic. I can credit these ethics to my amazing grandfather. He was the hardest working person I’ve ever known and always did the right thing. His values inspired me to live life the same way.
