Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kern.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was scouted at the State Fair of Texas in 2019 and began my modeling career in the summer of 2020 after signing with The Dragonfly Agency in Dallas. In January 2021 I was placed with their Los Angeles division and moved to LA. After 6 months of living there, I was placed in Mexico City with WB Management and went for development in the fall of 2021. While in CDMX I was placed in New York with Strut Models and in January of 2022 I walked in my first ever fashion week. I have since changed management and am now currently represented by Zombie Models in Miami which is a division of Ford Models Worldwide. I am also a modeling instructor at the Bella Modeling School in Dallas, Texas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. The hardest part for me was when I went full-time and was traveling constantly. It was difficult always being on the go and not knowing where I’ll end up next. Also maintaining my measurements, eating healthy, and keeping my skin clear was a constant battle while traveling. Another challenge was trusting my agents when they tell me they want to change my look. Rebranding is difficult and can be a big change, especially when you don’t get a say in what you look like.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am on the editorial side of modeling which consists of the runway, look books, and magazine spreads. The first runway show I ever walked in was Marcell von Berlin’s SS22 show which debuted at the James Goldstein house in Beverly Hills. It’s still my favorite show to date, since then I’ve gone on to walk for Greedilous who I debuted for at New York Fashion Week this year. In Dallas I’ve walked for brands such as Neiman Marcus and have had the pleasure to walk for some very talented local designers such as Smith ll, Laurence Wei, and Dylan Ray Berry. I’ve done campaign work for Virgin Hotels, Mary Kay, Anthony Rivera, and more. I’ve been published in Vogue Runway, Vogue Germany, Vogue Italia, Nylon Magazine, Paper Magazine, and was blessed with the opportunity to be interviewed by Dazed Magazine about my experience with fashion week this year. I’ve also had cover stories for Pump Magazine, Goji Magazine and many others. When I’m not modeling I am a model instructor specializing in high fashion editorial and runway. I also creative-direct my students’ photoshoots and act as a pose coach on set, helping them produce high quality tear sheets for their portfolios to submit to casting directors and agents. I also assist with their digitals, resume building, and test shoots outside of the school. It’s a very rewarding job and I feel so blessed with the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of models.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was going with my father to the trunk shows during fashion week and helping him dress mannequins and play with all the swatches and clothes. I feel very blessed to have grown up in that environment with a parent who works in fashion, as it gave me a unique perspective on the industry and made me appreciate it even more so now that I am a part of it.
