Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah LaRue.
Hi Leah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Former Emo – Scene aesthetic was a very prominent fashion genre in the early 2000s. Up until then as a pre-teen, I had been coloring my own hair and rocked an ombré way before it was a thing. Once I was in high school, I already had a makeshift garage-based hair salon. I specialized in mullets and really bright abstract stripe highlights. I had several of my peers coming to my shop on a regular basis.
Technically, I began coloring hair over 15 years ago. I first apprenticed under a stylist who was trained in the 80s-90s time. True to millennial form I have been able to experience the “past” & “present” in hair technique.
I have obviously had much more professional training since then and can confidently say that I work on any type of hair color or texture.
Since starting my hair salon business in 2017, I feel I have come full circle with my work. I now have the freedom to choose the work I want to do and definitely still have a passion for bright vibrant colorful and abstract.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes!!! Working as an artist is always a struggle.
Being misunderstood and often perceived as a misfit, an outcast, a troublemaker, a problem. I have been called those things and worse.
An entrepreneur is supposed to take risks and make choices most won’t. We are creating something completely personalized, dynamic, and innovative. I always say that I am in a relationship business, it’s all about networking with people who you can grow with.
Psychology is definitely a factor in running your own business. I try to keep myself educated on healthy communication tactics as much as possible.
Growing up in Texas, there is a huge underlying stigma for women to just be subservient, pretty, and not stand out too much.
I think I have definitely failed at all of that unintentionally. I’ve learned to accept that. There will always be someone who can’t relate, and I try to just surround myself with people who do appreciate my style.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Hair Physic name refers to the healing ritual behind a hair appointment.
The crown chakra is located below your hair and can be charged by rising to a higher level of confidence.
I love that I can incorporate energy work into my hair appointments. It is like a therapy session and makeover all in one.
My guests leave the appointment with the same feeling after you receive some really awesome news…. it feels like almost a surprise!!! Your hair is great, you look hawt, and you’re doing amazing…!!! In today’s chaos, that’s just exactly what people need to feel better.
It’s all love and confidence. We like to hype each other up and I love the relationships I have built with my clients.
What do you think about happiness?
I am truly happiest when I feel free to express myself in any form. My energy is the highest when I am having a really great time working with someone.
