Life & Work with Leigh Daugherty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leigh Daugherty.

Hi Leigh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My absolute favorite thing about The Family Concierge is that we CHANGE LIVES!

I began this as way to give back to moms and families that need help in the home. I was that mom at one time. A full- time career mom working 40 plus hours a day 5 to 6 days a week as my husband was serving our great country in the USMC. We didn’t have that help and I was driving and hour and a half one way everyday working, coming home and spending very little time with my youngs and then would stay up half the night making lunches, cleaning, doing projects ect. and then after getting a few hours of sleep i would wake my kids up and get them to daycare with their breakfast in tow and do it all over again and again. I missed out.

After relocating to the Southlake area 3 years ago and not having family near, my kids are all grown and my grandkids are out of state I wanted to go back to work but wanted to do something with purpose, its about serving, giving back and making a difference. Being in our client’s homes on a daily basis makes a difference

Today, we serve the DFW area including: Southlake, Northlake, Westlake. Colleyville, Flower Mound, Argyle, Roanoke, Keller, Carrollton and Dallas.

Our services include: Household management, home organization, event planning, errand services, relocation assistance and our Lock & Leave program for vacations and part-time residents.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Currently, our challenges is keeping up with the growth. We have built a brand based on a reputation for quality and consistency and we will not settle. It has been difficult finding staff that are consistent with our expectations and level of service and heart. This is not a position to be taken lightly and we look for that needle in a haystack. the “gem” We can teach a lot of things, how to fold, organize, shop… but we can’t teach heart, empathy, and passion. You need to have a passion to serve and to be able to do it on a different, higher level. You need a servant’s heart.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I began my career at Nordstrom at 18yrs old and worked as a manager and then a buyer. After getting married and starting a family it became hard to travel and take care of the kids, home, spend time with my husband and to not miss out on the “moments” So in order to not travel I went back into the stores and became a store manager for multiple national chain department stores.

Working nights, weekends, holidays and missing many family functions and milestones we were relocated to the east coast by the USMC. I have been blessed with many journeys and experiences because of our stations in the service and it has lead to many opportunities to use my talents. I have worked and owned a special events and wedding planning business and I have served in many volunteer positions and I have been blessed to be stay at home mom.

Making wonderful memories and helping families do the same is my priority these days

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are unique in the fact that we concentrate on the total family and the needs of each family member. We are in our family homes on a daily basis. We create processes, we create consistency, and balance and harmony and we create change every day. We are a support system that our families can call on 7 days a week. Our concept of helping families doesn’t stop with a one and done request.

We do have those clients that have used our service on occasion but honestly, most of ours are based on us going into the home and evaluating the needs, putting processes in place as a team and then assigning a concierge to the family to help them in keeping up the processes and to helping the family grow and progress and succeed. When The Family Concierge takes on a new family it means we all take on the family.

We work as a team so that we have success as a team. We are consistent in our quality and our processes so that if a family concierge is out on vacation or maybe ill, another concierge can step in to help so that the family stays consistent. Consistency is key to growth.

We have every hope and expectation that we and services like ours with grow and thrive based on the trends of home shopping, minimalist living and self-care
