Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Moss.
Linda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Natchitoches, LA. I started drawing and painting as a young child. It was always my favorite thing to do. I’ve continued to do it no matter what jobs I ended up having. Eventually, I ended up going into massage therapy and worked doing that for almost 10 years before Covid happened and changed everything. I moved to doing art full-time and haven’t looked back since
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think there are always bumps in the road. There have been times when I’ve pushed to meet too many goals at once and experienced burnout. There have been times when I set lofty sales goals and didn’t reach them. And then there are also times that are unexpectedly great. It’s a mixed bag.
One of the main struggles I’ve had is finding a good balance between work and life. Working from home with my dining room as my studio has its challenges, but we’re working on that
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a painter. I use professional-grade acrylic paints on wood panels. My work has a lot of layers, starting with one thin underpainting layer in a warm hue.
My subjects have ranged over the years from still life to the human form to non-representational abstract work. Lately, I’ve been working on a series of botanical pieces. I plan to work in this series for quite some time.
I think my use of contrast and bright saturated colors set me apart from other painters. I love the play of light and shadows.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
When I was starting out, we didn’t have the internet. I learn so much just by watching other artists process videos on YouTube and Instagram. So many questions easily answered these days instead of weeks of trial and error. Use that wealth of information floating around out there to your benefit!
