Today we’d like to introduce you to Maneesha Nakirikanti.
Maneesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello there! Born and raised in Hyderabad, India, and I have been residing in Dallas for the past 9 years, making it my home away from home. My journey has been an exciting blend of diverse experiences. I pursued my passion for electrical engineering during my time in India and later pursued a master’s degree in computer networking from George Mason University, Virginia. Following my studies, I found myself drawn toward the captivating world of data, leading me to a career in data analytics.
I’ve always been someone who loves trying new things to find my niche. I’ve dabbled in various creative pursuits like baking, painting, and clay modeling but it was through writing that I realized my innate love for storytelling and the sheer enjoyment it brings me.
Working in data analytics, I have had the pleasure of working with intricate data and visualizing it in a way that is easily comprehensible to others. This background has greatly helped me in my approach to writing. I believe words hold immense power to inspire and touch lives, and I firmly believe in harnessing that power to make a positive impact.
The pivotal moment came when my kids started sharing their creative musings with me. Listening to their unique perspectives, I realized they could be the magical foundation for a delightful children’s book. It struck me that these books could nurture curiosity and help children realize they’re not alone in their thoughts. I yearned to create a book that children could relate to, treasure, and cherish together.
This incredible journey has beautifully intertwined my passions for storytelling and data visualization. The outcome is a children’s book that fills me with immense pride and eagerness to share it with others. I hope this book will inspire parents and children to embrace the joy of sharing their musings and learnings with the world.
In addition to writing, I also enjoy traveling to places to learn about diverse cultures.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. When I first started on this journey, I had no idea about the publishing industry or how to illustrate a children’s book. I didn’t have any friends who had gone through the process either. It took me months of research and learning to understand how to put everything together. One of my biggest challenges was finding time to work on my book. Balancing a full-time job and taking care of my two kids made it difficult to have dedicated time for writing and illustrating. However, I am incredibly grateful to my partner, my major support system.
Despite the challenges, the journey was immensely rewarding. Overcoming the obstacles and seeing my book come to life brings me immense joy and fulfillment. It has taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and the power of support from loved ones.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In addition to my work as a data analytics manager, I recently ventured into the world of writing and publishing children’s books. My first children’s book was released just a month ago, and it has been a fulfilling experience to see it come to life. I took on the responsibility of writing the story, editing, and illustrating the book myself.
I am proud to have accomplished this creative project, and it fills me with joy to see young children enjoying my book. It’s an absolute delight to read it aloud to them and hear their laughter and excitement.
I’m excited to continue this wonderful journey of storytelling. I have countless ideas swirling in my mind, waiting to be shaped into stories. My passion lies in connecting with young readers and crafting stories that entertain, educate and inspire them.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust myself and stay committed to completing what I start without constantly doubting or questioning because it’s what keeps me driven, confident, and performing at my best.
