Life & Work with Mary Bee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Bee.

Hi Mary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Mary Bee I’m a 27-year-old licensed beautician in Dallas 🙂 I first started dabbling in makeup and hair like every girl in high school. Once I graduated, I started my natural hair journey with a big chop and started school at the Art Institute for fashion design. At the time, the beauty world was really starting to open up more on YouTube so I started to find a love in makeup again but also natural hair. I bought my first little $25 BH Cosmetics palette and had probably 3 lipsticks and started practicing on myself and anybody who was willing. Then I started offering makeup travel services charging $25-45. At 21, I had my daughter and got in serious mommy mode and slowed down practicing my craft. 2 years later, I got tired of the cycle I was in, working just to pay the bills, so I enrolled in cosmetology school. I always had the dream of being a one-stop shop so my love for natural hair and color began to grow while in school. I started dabbling in silk presses, natural curls, and hair color. I realized in school; a lot of people don’t know how to manage their natural hair so I made sure to learn for them. Finished school September 2019 and became licensed December 2019. Covid shut us down so I said I’m going in full entrepreneur mode and built Mary Bee Beauty from the ground up. Now here we are in 2022, I offer everything beauty from every natural hair service, makeup, and eyelash extensions, I have launched Luna Lashes which is my eyelash strip line and Lyla’s Crown will be introduced to the world Aug 2022, I’ve been in my own suite for almost 2 years, I create my own schedule and I’m doing everything I love while creating the life my daughter and I deserve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, nooo lol the road is never smooth when you are aligned with God’s path. During cosmetology school, I went through complete h e l l. I had to pull myself out of some very low moments but I kept reminding myself “You’re doing this for Lyla (my daughter)”. As she gets older as her mother, how could expect to tell her to shoot for her dreams if I never went through with mine? I’m thankful for the rocky road. It’s made me who I am now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I considered myself a creative that expresses through beauty. I specialize in natural hair and makeup. I’m known for my clients being able to leave with a bomb silk press, aloe steam treatment, and beat face! What sets me apart from others is that I do offer multiple services, so you can come to me for almost everything beauty. I’m most proud of my aloe treatments because I took a lot of time to research what natural ingredients (aloe, oranges, different natural oils, essential oils and etc.) work for different scalp conditions and hair needs. Why have to go to multiple stylists /artists when you can just go to one person?

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
KEEP GOING! Stay out of your head, keep your eyes on the prize, don’t let anybody or anything deter you from your goals, pray pray pray, be open to criticism, learn all you can and put yourself and goals first.
