Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Meche.
Hi Melinda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
That would be a book for sure lol
I got started with the idea after being laid off in Civil Engineering in 2009 when the economy crashed. I always had a passion for animals and it seem like a great time to take advantage of looking into something is always wanted to try.
Here I am 15 years later with a huge training center that has grown from 2000sf to 16,500sf.
I believe you can pull my first interview to get more info.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Def not a smooth road. We had growing pains to find a bigger building, to get a small biz loan for a woman, to make it thru the down time of Covid, now we just don’t look back. Yea we still hit bumps in the road all the time but those never go away. Its all about determination!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are training Center with 11 dog trainers. We specialize in sports such as agility knows work, rally tricks and other fun classes. I am most proud of the positive training that we share with others that love their dogs too.
Dog Training of this level is more of a niche in the Dallas Fort Worth area. There are only a few of us around and we all struggle with landlords and cost of doing business. What set us apart from others is our clients. We have the best clients that enjoy working with their dogs and coming for training each week.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There are a lot of things that I wish I knew when I started out that I know now, but that list is so long that it would take a chapter of my life to write
Start slow, build your clientele, stay positive and don’t look back. If you were determined to build your business, it’s possible with a lot of hard work sometimes when I think I can’t do it anymore the next day leaves me smiling for the accomplishments that I just made the day before.
