Life & Work with Melissa Serna of Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Serna.

Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For 24 years, I was a proud military wife. Through countless PCS moves, new duty stations, and the buying and selling of multiple homes, I lived the very challenges so many military families face. Every move meant adjusting to new schools, finding new friends, and once again searching for a place that felt like home, even if only for a few years.
When my husband approached retirement, we dreamed of finding the perfect property in Texas where we could finally put down permanent roots and enjoy the life we had worked so hard to build. That journey, filled with both excitement and stress, taught me how much a home truly means. It isn’t just about the walls and roof. It’s about stability, belonging, and creating a foundation for every stage of life.
That’s why I became a realtor. My mission is to take the stress out of buying or selling for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the process. I understand the unique challenges military families face because I’ve lived them. And I know how important it is for all buyers to feel supported and confident every step of the way.
Today, I bring both my personal experience and professional expertise to guide others, whether you’re purchasing a home for just a few years or searching for the perfect place to retire. My passion is helping families, just like mine, find not just a house, but a home under the big Texas sky.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — but that’s what makes the journey meaningful. There were moments I questioned if I was on the right path. But I stayed consistent, leaned into education, joined coaching, and made it my mission to show up for people — especially fellow veterans, first-time homebuyers, and families navigating big transitions like we had. Over time, those small seeds grew into something beautiful. Now I have the privilege of helping others find their “forever home” in Texas — just like we did.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a full-time Realtor serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. I specialize in helping military families, first-time homebuyers, and clients relocating to Texas — especially from out of state. As a military spouse of 24 years, I’ve personally navigated multiple moves, so I understand how emotional and overwhelming the process can be. My goal is to make that journey smoother, more informed, and even exciting for my clients.
What I’m most proud of is the impact I get to make. Every family I help isn’t just another transaction — it’s a new chapter in their lives. In 2024 alone, I had the honor of helping over 50 families find not just a house, but a place to call home. That moment when someone realizes, “This is ours,” is something I never take for granted.
What sets me apart is the level of care and connection I bring to every step of the process. I stay personally involved from start to finish, I educate my clients so they feel confident and empowered, and I take the time to understand their unique needs — whether they’re buying for a few years or planning for retirement. I also bring a strong marketing background and a deep network of trusted professionals to ensure every transaction is handled with excellence.
At the core of what I do is a genuine commitment to helping people plant roots and build something lasting — because I’ve been there, and I know how much that matters.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk has been a constant companion throughout my life — not just in my career, but in the way I’ve lived. As a military spouse, risk came with the territory. Every PCS move meant starting over — new schools for our kids, new routines, new communities, and for me, rebuilding my business from scratch more times than I can count. That alone shaped how I view risk: not as something to avoid, but as something that forces growth.
One of the biggest risks I took was fully committing to real estate in Texas — a place where I didn’t know anyone, had no established network, and was essentially starting from zero. But I had a vision, and more importantly, I had the drive to build something meaningful. I didn’t play it safe. I invested in coaching, marketing, and education before I had the results to justify it — because I believed in what I was building.
To me, risk is necessary if you want to create something bigger than yourself. It’s never about being reckless — it’s about trusting yourself to rise, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Every client, every home, every decision in this business carries some level of risk. But when you lead with integrity, preparation, and purpose, the risk becomes worth it.
I don’t always feel like a risk-taker, but looking back, I can see how many times I chose the harder path because I believed it would lead to a better life — for my family, and for the people I serve. And that’s a risk I’ll take every time.
