Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Thompson.
Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Thank you, Voyage Dallas, for this tremendous opportunity, and thank you for being an unbelievable representation of our great city and giving light to so many hard-working people!
I am Michael Thompson, Executive Director, of Mayor Johnson’s new initiative, Workforce Dallas. I pride myself of impacting lives and to this opportunity to impact my community is everything to me.
Growing up wasn’t easy but my parents instilled in me to always put others before oneself. I played basketball growing up and I would bring home trophies and my parents would say, “that’s great son, but how did you help your teammates, how did you impact your coach?” That is why I have worked so hard to help others.
Next, I was extremely blessed to attend Langston University and becoming a proud HBCU grad and then have the opportunity to work with President Obama and his My brother’s Keeper Alliance. Learning so much from one of the most historic HBCUs in the country and the greatest leader in history, President Obama, I wanted use that momentum to impact my community.
I worked for Oak Cliff Bible fellowship and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, where I was the only young adult Business Development manager in the company. That responsibility gave me the opportunity build employer partnerships with over 100 employers and 100% hire rate. Now I am blessed to even impact more with the Mayor and Workforce Dallas.
I know there are so many people in our community that are going through tough times and need help. I want them to know Workforce Dallas was created for you! We pride ourselves in being a people-first organization. We are investing in the citizens of our community.
Workforce Dallas will bring a holistic, hands-on approach to workforce development – a people-focused cause that can not only change lives and stabilize families but also change the future trajectory of our city. Reduced crime, improved health, greater educational achievement, and stronger communities – all by-products of reducing poverty – can be achieved with a laser focus on upskilling and upgrading low-wage workers to higher-paying job opportunities and providing hands-on support to help them succeed at those new jobs.
I know many organizations tell people to go to the website and this and that, but I know many that are going to read this and need help now. This is my direct contact number (469) 251-2394. I look forward to helping you all with upskilling opportunities and trajectory-changing employment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, but I pride myself on impacting lives. Many people are going through incredible tough situations. I have been in those shoes. So, I work first and foremost to gain their trust which is hard, as it should be. But when you do its life changing!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I am most proud of my work and my family. I am married to the best wife and mother in the world (Helsa, the Owner of the Aura House) who was also featured in Voyage, and we have the 3 best sons (Michael III, Jordan, and Jalen).
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being Selfless, 2nd to none work, being able to connect to all, and most importantly a true passion for impacting lives.
