Today we’d like to introduce you to Millicent Jackson, founder of The Kingdom of God Matters.
Hi Millicent, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a woman of faith, a mother to the most awesome son I could have prayed for, an entrepreneur, and a native of St. Louis, MO-home of Imo’s Pizza, Sweetie Pie’s, the best-fried rice, and Pappy’s Smokehouse to name a few.
I’ve always had a heart for people, never wanting to see anyone hurting or struggling. God has given me such a wonderful gift of being able to talk to and comfort people, as well as help, and bring clarity to them in their life experiences. Putting a smile on someone’s face is most fulfilling to me no matter the capacity in which God uses me to serve them. I have been able to exercise my gift in various calls in my life- the beauty industry as a Licensed Cosmetologist (right out of high school), later in the corporate world as a Financial Cost Analyst, and most recently as a Master Eyelash Extension Artist and educator. Unbeknownst to me, God used my eyelash business as the precursor to his greater purpose for my life and the reason he shifted me here to Dallas- to birth his ministry through me. Where I am today was definitely not on my “where do you see yourself in 5 years” list!
In 2016, God began a series of “shakings” in my life to awaken me to his plans to prosper and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and future (Jeremiah 29:11). Up until then, I had lived my life in brokenness, outside-in, all while serving God out of religion and fear. As a result of not having a relationship with God, I made decisions out of fear instead of faith, misunderstandings, and self-will. From the outside in I seemed to have it all-marriage and family, a beautiful home, career, luxury cars, nice things, etc.; however, I was empty inside. During that time, God brought me to such an overwhelming sense of frustration with everything I had attained in my own strength and had been toiling to keep and maintain in my life.
The first “shaking” was to rid me of what didn’t serve him, which included my career and marriage. Unbeknownst to me, these were the 2 main things that I held as idols above him. It broke my heart when I realized that I was depending on and trusting in them as my source of security and comfort more than I depended on and trusted in God, my heavenly Father. To add, God showed me that I was out of covenant with him as a result of the decisions I made in my brokenness; however, he allowed them for a greater purpose. After I was obedient to let go of my marriage as God’s direct words to me were “you have to let him go to see who I AM”, he then began to remove my career in Corporate America. I had done all I could to look for higher-paying jobs since my living situation had changed, however, God closed every door in my face. He beautifully brought me to the end of myself where all I could do was just stand and seek him for his plan and purpose. If I could describe it best, my hands were spiritually tied with Jesus at the wheel. He no longer desired for me to be one of his sheep sliding and scurrying off to the side of the pasture out of alignment with his will for my life.
As I waited upon the Lord at the closed doors, I had built up my trust and confidence in him by learning his character through his word, in prayer and worship, and most importantly letting go of self-will. He then showed me to “use what was in my hands” and reignited my gifts in the beauty industry. In 2017, he led me to start my eyelash business while I was still working my corporate job. He then allowed me to grow to another overwhelming sense of frustration that pushed me to step out on faith and quit my job. I had no savings and I had more months than money. I wasn’t making enough in my business to cover the bills. This led me to solely depend on the Lord to provide for me as I put my hands to what he was showing me to do. It was when I didn’t care about losing anything that I gained everything! As I got into covenant alignment with him, he eventually turned what I initially thought would be supplemental income into a thriving 6 figure business within 3 years’ time. It’s so amazing how we can say the phrase “Jehovah-Jireh is my provider” but to actually know this, to really depend on God when there is no other plan but “plan A” is mind-blowing, exciting, and frightening all at once. However, God was there to catch every tear I shed, comfort me and take care of me. He gave me the grace to make it through that season while sustaining me so that I didn’t look like what I was going through.
By 2018, I was thriving in my relationship with God and in business! He had healed my heart tremendously and showed me that I am a wife, married to him first according to Isaiah 54:5. I was making plans to expand my business when God gave me another “shake” and revealed to me that it was time to physically move. He used a series of confirmations which included a dream that I had when I was 16 years old. This particular dream puzzled me for over 20 years as God didn’t reveal the meaning of it until it was time (Habakkuk 2:3). God was changing the total trajectory of my life, leading me to leave behind my family and friends, my business (and my favorite comfort foods), to shift my son and I here to Dallas. With much shock to me and those I’m closest to, I took a step of faith in obedience to go to the land the Lord was showing me (Genesis 12:1-3).
The total transition took 11 months to unfold and we were settled here by August of 2019. Shortly after, I began rebuilding my business as the Lord had so beautifully orchestrated a small clientele that was already here waiting for me get started. However, another “shaking” was on the horizon and the momentum I was gaining was brought to an abrupt halt due to the pandemic lockdown of 2020. It was then that God revealed in this time of “resetting” and “resting” that he was preparing me for a “new thing”, a shift into ministry. My reply was “umm, EXCUSE ME?!” God has such a sense of humor! All along I thought this move was to expand my business in a larger territory for the vision that I had for it. In hindsight, he revealed that he used the specific niche of my eyelash business as a metaphor to correlate with his plan to use me to help his people to “see” him. He also showed me that this was something that he had already been training me to do in the lives of the clients that he sent to my business. God has called me to help bring his people into a relationship with him by truly knowing him, to help them discover their true identity and purpose, and to help set them free from strongholds (mainly fear and poverty mindsets). I was and still am in awe of God and what he is doing in my life!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Wow, if I can describe it best, I would say that my transition was like crunchy peanut butter. The smooth part in my journey was having God’s peace as I trusted him to rebuild my life from the inside out. In his peace, I gained the assurance to fully trust what he was showing me to do and where to go. The crunchy part was the pain of divorce, leaving my family and friends behind, closing the business that God blessed me with and flourished, selling my then dream home, and starting my life over at the age of 39. I didn’t understand initially why God was making such a drastic change in my life in regards to the move and was concerned about how co-parenting would work out. I didn’t know what effects the move would have on my son and how we all would adapt. However, God “Romans 8:28’d” our lives, perfected everything that concerned me, and began to work everything out for good, because I love him and am called according to his purpose. I thank God that even though it wasn’t his plan for my son’s father and I to continue on, he blessed me with such a wonderful and supportive father to our son. God did such a beautiful thing with all of our hearts in this entire process and we have all adapted quite well to the change. As a result, we are the most awesome co-parents to our son, all to the glory of God!
To add to these challenges, I didn’t know that I would be going through a wilderness season of isolation, more healing in other areas of my life, testing, and preparation. As God tucked me away, he began to show me my true identity and who he created me to be in order to align me for my purpose to serve his people. He so graciously allured me here to Dallas to finish shaking everything that could be shaken, leaving me to stand and build on the solid rock and foundation of Jesus Christ. From this place, I am able to receive the blessing that makes rich with no sorrow or toiling added to it. God has such a brilliant way of polishing us up to make us ready for his use! A move of faith such as this was way out of my comfort zone and not easy at all. However, it’s only during the uncomfortable stretching that we are able to grow and realize our potential and who God originally purposed us to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear several hats in ministry as a Prophetess, Life Coach and Mentor, Speaker, Author, and Content Creator! On July 5th, 2020 God birthed his ministry movement through me, The Kingdom of God Matters®. This was a very “strange” transition for me as he showed me in a dream earlier that year to start his ministry on YouTube. It was nighttime in the dream, and I was standing on my balcony speaking the word of God at the top of my lungs into the darkness with the ring light that I used for eyelash extensions shining brightly on my face. To add to that there was nobody outside! Then I heard the word YouTube. When I awakened, I knew that was what I was supposed to do. God was calling me to speak into the airwaves of YouTube and it would initially feel like nobody was there or listening. It took me 7 months to fully transition from my business (it was me not wanting to let go) and start the ministry. God also started “drying up” the provision in my business which was another indicator for me to go with what I knew he was showing me to do. To make this even more “strange”, he showed me to build in silence meaning I couldn’t broadcast what I was doing, not even to my family and friends which was very tough. I was only able to share this with those closest to me that I knew would hold onto it and be a support system to me through the process.
God was very serious and strategic about how he was doing this “new thing” in my life as he told me “I will bring the nations to you first”. I had no idea what he meant, what this would look like, or what to even talk about. I finally pressed record and started with the things that God showed me prophetically through my dreams, life experiences, the heart of his word, and what he shared with me for his people during my prayer time. In this, he began to slowly grow the ministry and cultivate my gifts and confidence in front of the camera. As I was consistently obedient, around February 2021, he impressed on me to record my testimony of how he moved me to Dallas. This opened the floodgates to the nations (people) being brought to me from all over the world whom God already predestined for me to serve and reach! He used my testimony to help so many others that he is “shaking” and “awakening” to “crossover” to their land of promise in a spiritual and physical sense. I never dreamed that my story and testimony would be heard or be such an inspiration to others to the effect of them growing from fear to faith to trust God in all areas of their lives. As the comments and emails of their testimonies continue to flow in, I can do nothing but praise God for the work he is doing in and through me.
In November of 2021, I was honored to be a keynote speaker at an event here in Dallas called “Brunch and Bibles”. I was able to meet some of God’s beautiful daughters that he led to my testimony on YouTube for the purpose of their individual moves. He used me to serve as a “destiny helper” to assist and bring clarity to them about what he was showing them to do as he was “sifting and shifting” them here from across states and even across seas for his plan and purpose. I was astonished to learn that I wasn’t the only one going through such a shocking transition. In hindsight, releasing my testimony as God was leading me to do was attached to so many lives which proves the importance of being in your purpose. I am eternally grateful and humbled by the experience.
The second leg of this ministry is called “Teach My Daughters”, which was birthed from a phrase that the Lord spoke to me in my prayer time with him in April of 2021. Every Tuesday, I release messages geared toward women about life experiences with a biblical foundation and focus to free them from toxic relationships. God has given me such a passion for marriages done the kingdom way-his way. He has given me the grace for the mistakes that I have made and is using it for his good. That’s how much he loves us! I also teach them about the love of God and who he is as husband first, which in turn shows them what love really is so that they know how a man should treat and love them, as Christ loves them (the church). Until this is realized, exclusive singleness and commitment to God and purpose will serve best. These messages however are not biased as I teach on what women do to men as well, so it’s twofold. God is very serious about freeing his daughters and sons from toxic relationship cycles as it keeps them fogged, in an identity crisis, and locked out of their purpose. He desires to restore his covenant with all who are willing to follow his plan and purpose for their lives. God wants his children set free in all areas as Jesus has sacrificed his life for us to have life and have it more abundantly!
In August of 2021, God continued to “show out” in birthing my life coaching business with a focus on mindsets and purpose, which is the third leg of this ministry. God has blessed me with much success in this by allowing me to use my testimonies and life experiences as my witness. The wisdom of his Holy Spirit allows me to coach those he sends to me in a custom fit way. I have been able to help his people in private one-on-one sessions to grow deeper in their relationship with him, work through their struggles, and help bring clarity to start them on the path to their purpose. I have been blessed to witness and help midwife so many “ministry births” in the lives of those who God has sent to me to coach thus far. God and I are a team in this process with the Holy Spirit leading each and every person into all truth in their personal situations. I am eternally grateful and honored to be chosen for such an important role in the lives of his people.
As an author, I was able to birth my first e-book during my wilderness season titled “Flourish Don’t Faint”. It’s a short guide with 5 powerful keys to help those in the wilderness to not overextend their stay and see it as a beautiful place while rebuilding their relationship with God. It has touched and blessed so many lives to date and I’m excited to create and release so much more material to serve God’s people!
God has set me apart by anointing me with the ability to deliver his word in a way that his people understand him in it and see themselves in him. He uses my serious but funny side to draw his people back to Him through Jesus Christ who is within me. In all of this, The Kingdom of God Matters® in your lifestyle, business, and eternity! This is the kingdom of God within you in all that you do! I’m looking forward to continuing to be a powerhouse for his kingdom and shake the nations with the truth of his word to set the captives free as he has called and appointed me to do according to Isaiah 61.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If you’re looking to live your life in a way that serves God’s plan and purpose for you, it’s important to find a mentor or life coach who can help you from a spiritual as well as a practical aspect. Whether your focus points are personal development, relationship, spiritual, career, or entrepreneurship, the life coach or mentor that you choose should be someone who will be influential in your journey. It should be someone that you feel that you can trust and relate to while also being aligned on the level where you aspire to be. It should be someone who is going to challenge you, stretch you past your comfort zone, teach you kingdom principles to break habits, hold you accountable for steady forward movement, and help pull out of you what God has placed on the inside of you (which one doesn’t often see in themselves). From a spiritual aspect, it should be someone with a proven solid relationship with God who is ultimately going to lead you to back to him. You should be able to see the fruit of their labor to test to see if it is of God. Be sure to do your research and if you are a person of the faith, pray and ask God to show you by his Holy Spirit who you should work with. If you haven’t grown to this place just yet, as you research and network, trust that feeling you have when you feel something is or isn’t right about a person.
I pray God’s best to all who are looking to move forward in God’s plan and purpose for their lives!
