Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Ashley.
Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up on 90’s and 2000’s country music, and in my possible biased opinion that is the best country music out there still to this day! I wrote songs about my horses and cows and would put on karaoke concerts for my parents when I was little, but ultimately a career in country music seemed so far out of reach that when I got into high school, I put more focus into sports and my show animals. I was very involved in 4-H and FFA and owe so much to these programs for the person I am today. My ag teacher talked me into doing our local FFA talent show, and I sang ‘Famous in a Small Town’ by Miranda Lambert to backing tracks. There were other people in the competition who played the guitar and I was so amazed by it! I immediately started guitar lessons and my teacher happened to be a girl not much older than me who was pursuing music as well and really made me believe this was something I could achieve. I started doing open mic nights and writing my own music. Soon enough I was playing venues every weekend! It’s been almost 9 years now since I picked up a guitar for the first time, and I am very proud to say that in 2021 I was named the Female Artist of the Year at the Texas Country Music Awards.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced have been sending countless emails for almost no response, getting doors slammed in my face metaphorically, and going through writer’s block. I feel that I have been very blessed with opportunities and the best support system I could ask for, but that doesn’t stop the negative thoughts from creeping in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write songs in hopes of connecting with people in a way that says you are not alone! Whether you’re going through a tough breakup and need to hear a sad song, or maybe you’re really mad and need a “stick-it-to-em” song, or even need a good party anthem song-I’ve got it and I’ve lived it!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest credit goes to my parents. They have supported my dreams since day one, and I cannot possibly thank them enough for their continued support.
