Today we’d like to introduce you to Myles Mays.
Hi Myles , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I originally bought the Canon T5i back in 2016 to start creating youtube videos during my freshman year of college, but unfortunately at the time i wasn’t good at speaking to the camera like it was a person haha. In 2018 my sister Tamia asked me if I could do a small photoshoot and at this time it was my first actual shoot so I was nervous but obliged. So we did the shoot and I sent her the pics all unedited and, when she posted them on instagram, there were a few comments of people asking who took them and how good they were. At that moment I feel it clicked for me that photography could be something that I do for some extra cash on the side so I started to pursue it more. In 2019 my mom passed away after a 12 year battle with lupus and it was devastating but I knew that she would want me to keep my head high and going for all my goals. The next 2 years go by and I’m starting to get more clientele as well as learning videography so I can film music videos and social media content. At this time I didn’t have a media handle so I took about a month to come up with something and had no luck until I had this random thought of including my mom’s name in it hence the TDM in my name today stands for “Tammie Denise Mays” which were her initials. In 2023 I purchased the Canon C70 to truly start a path within cinema which has lead me to more narrative and commercial work. As of July 2025 I officially became a business owner when I opened my photography/product commercial studio in Fort Worth. I’m truly grateful for every client that has given me the opportunity to capture them through my lens.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest obstacle for me has always been trying to figure out if I should choose the route of promoting myself through a niche or to do different things in the media world. I’ve always had this feeling that I’m skilled enough to do as many things as I can but I never want that to be a detriment to me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When it comes to photography I’m always looking for new ways that I can be more innovative and creative within that space. I’d say I’m best known for my gobo photography and the use of color within my photos. In filmmaking I’m constantly working to create the most cinematic look that I can and I feel like I’m know for the grainy yet sharp look that I provide. The projects I’m most proud of would be the partnership that I have with BnB Theaters creating commercials alongside my bro Kory.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my relationship with God and my family. I’m a follower of Christ and without his mercy, grace an love I know that this path for my life would not be possible so I’m extremely grateful and blessed for all of the opportunities I’ve been granted. My family has always uplifted and believed in my abilities so I always want to make them proud.
