Life & Work with Nichole Fiorentino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichole Fiorentino.

Nichole Fiorentino

Hi Nichole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Nichole, I’m a mother of 4 and an awesome bonus son, a wife of 26 years, cancer survivor (14 years and counting), homeschool mom about to graduate our 1st kid and 2 more next year, Zumba instructor (joyfully dancing with fantastic friends for 7 years), friend and daughter.

About 4 years ago my mom asked me to help her take-over a small boutique in Plano. I thought she was a little crazy and wondered how I’d fit that in with my already busy life!

I did think running a shop with my mom would be an adventure, I just didn’t realize at the time how much I’d enjoy the creative outlet. During my time there, many customers asked when I was going to do something in our neighborhood, Lake Highlands.

I began to consider what that would or could look like and started putting that energy out into the universe. Really, that time was pretty awesome. My business partner, my husband Mike, and I set out some plans and visions and things just started falling into place. I feel incredibly fortunate to get to create a space in which lovely people feel comfortable exploring their style, their “look.” My customers are absolutely the BEST part of my job!

We will celebrate our one-year anniversary on October 1st; hard to believe. Plans for a fun, festive event are already in the works!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is anything a smooth road in this economy??? Although, I’ve learned that doubt and fear are pretty normal feelings in small business ownership, that’s why it’s not for everyone. It’s a daily reminder to keep going, keep learning and stay true to yourself, your individuality and vision.

Personally, I was very challenged by the social media aspect of owning my own business. I charged myself with the job of listening to podcasts and watching videos to learn about creating a community on social media. That community continues to grow daily, and I enjoy the engagement and interaction with all of my customers, near and far.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My goal with lucky + lola is to give the free-spirited babes of all ages a fun, happy space to express themselves through unique clothing and accessories. I personally curate my little shop. I have touched every piece in the shop; fabric content is a big deal to me. As we live in Texas and are currently living through extreme heat; choosing fabrics that afford airflow and movement are a priority, even in the winter (because Texas > winter). 😁 I’m proud of staying true to the mom, daughter, crazy aunt, and grandmother that finds dressing as a form of self-expression and individuality. I think of my customers every single time I choose a piece for our collections.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Goodness, come see me! If you cannot make it by, follow me on IG, that’s my favorite mode of social media communication.
(I actually have a couple customers that have never set foot in the shop or have moved away and still shop via IG.)

One of my fave things to do is collaborate with and support local artists/designers. I carry a lot of local and small, artisan-made jewelry. So, if you’re a creative give me a shout, and let’s get the word out!

We also host a local vendor/small business event just about every month at the salon suites where our shop is located. (Ascension Salon Suites in Lakeridge Shopping Center). It’s a super fun way to get to know other small business owners and promote shopping small in our community.
