Today we’d like to introduce you to Patience Roberson.
Before my life in Dallas, I lived in Houston, TX with my grandmother, father, and little brother. My grandmother owned an at-home business where she’d create floral arrangements, gift baskets, and/or plan events. As I grew older, I began assisting her with her business. I was amazed at how creative she was and the relationships she built with individuals along the way. It motivated and inspired me. I became passionate about using my creativity to bring visions to life just like her. Fast forward through the years, I’d already moved to Dallas and got married! After giving birth to our first son in 2011, I chose to launch my first business called It Takes Patience Event Planning. During that time, I would tackle small events for friends/family to showcase my skills. I joined various business-based Facebook groups and came across a woman who truly motivated me. Her name is Devonka Bratton. We met November 2014 and that same month I told her, “I’m going to make you my mentor.” Just like that, I was back and forth from Dallas to Houston, assisting Devonka with a couple of in-state events. My first big event I assisted her with was Party With A Purpose: Breast Cancer Awareness in South Padre, TX. The next event I assisted Devonka with was Big Girls Rock Fashion Show in Houston, TX. Around 2017, my grandmother passed away. I took her passing really hard. So I decided to take a break from Event Planning and chose to be a stay-at-home wife/mom. By that time I had a total of three children. Being a business owner was still in the back of my mind, but I didn’t know when I wanted to start it back. By 2020, COVID knocked on the worlds door and everything changed. While on lockdown, I started seeing clips and ads of the Cricut machine. I thought it was pretty cool. I did my research, paid for classes, and completed hands-on design training. I was invested. By June 10th, 2020, I decided to launch GIFTED By Patience. The name was inspired by my sister/friend, Krina Lee. She told me, “Sis, you are a whole gift with many gifts.” I believed and applied every word. My very first product I designed was an Acrylic Milk Carton Water Bottle for a Health and Wellness Coach. After showcasing the bottle on social media, it quickly grabbed the attention of other buyers. I started designing wine glasses, picture frames, coffee mugs, tumblers, water bottles, etc. While growing my business, I learned about Epoxy. That was a game-changer for me. I began creating dominoes, chess sets, coasters, paperweights, trays, and more. Not long after, I added custom clothing to my business. I took the skills I acquired and incorporated them into custom gift baskets/boxes. When I saw how quickly business was growing for me, I chose to obtain my LLC and other important add-ons for my business. Whatever service I mastered, it became apart of that LLC. I am always learning something new. So, stay tuned.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a balanced journey of highs and lows. An experience that wasn’t so pleasant was when I journeyed through a month where business wasn’t booming as fast as I’d wanted it to. That led me into learning more marketing techniques and how to keep up with trends that my target audience was interested in.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in providing services that caters to my customers’ wants and/or needs. Whether it be inquiring about custom products for a party/business, revamping important documents, or coordinating an event, I give it my all. I am proud of the level of customer service and creativity that I possess. What sets me apart from others is my passion. I’ve met many who desire to start a business because it will bring countless streams of income, yet there’s no passion. Whether business is slow for me or not, I maintain a passion to provide exceptional service to anyone I meet. It is a blessing to carry GIFTS that God has granted to me. My GIFTS build relationships, bring people back to me, and leave people satisfied with my delivery.
None of that would exist without my biggest support system of all:
1. God for giving me these hands to create.
2. My best friend/husband, Jarrel, and our three children, Quinton, Ta’Lyah, and Jade for praying with me, encouraging me, inspiring me, and supporting me in their own way. I do this for them and I am blessed to have them on this journey with me.
I am thankful for all of my supporters, both near and far.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
What I’ve learned during the COVID-19 crisis is that everyone is in this together, no matter where we are in life. If we maintain empathy and compassion for one another, whether in business or in our personal lives, it will give us a bit more room to breathe and realize we are not alone.
