Today we’d like to introduce you to Pranika Duggal.
Hi Pranika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In 2015, I competed in my first pageant at nine years old. I had no prior experience in the entertainment industry, but I come from a family of former pageant winners, dancers, and singers. However, I dedicated myself with unwavering determination and worked tirelessly to achieve my goals and won the title of Miss Jr Teen Texas 2015!
Ever since, I fell deeply in love with pageantry. In high school, I competed in many pageants and obtained the titles of Miss Teen Asia World 2021, Miss Teen New York 2022, and first-runner-up at Miss Teen India Texas 2022. In 2023, I had the opportunity to walk in New York Fashion Week with renowned designers. I cherish pageantry for its ability to empower individuals, fostering self-confidence and a strong sense of purpose. Through this platform, I’ve witnessed how it opens doors to diverse opportunities, allowing me to connect with inspiring people and make a positive impact in my community.
I chose to utilize pageantry as a powerful tool for social impact because it provides a unique platform to amplify important causes, enabling me to leverage my influence for positive change and make a meaningful difference in the world. In 2022, I created a non-profit organization called Notions of Nari, which gives a voice to sexual assault victims by uncovering abuse in industries and taking community action.
Nari is the Hindi word for woman. Being a first-generation Indian American, I get to see how the development of industries impacts abuse. I want to use that knowledge to help women know that they are not alone, regardless of what level of resources they have.
Notions of Nari advocates for sexual assault through its blog, website, and eye-opening social media posts. I also work with local charities like Hope’s Door New Beginning Center and Genesis’ STAR Program to raise vital funds and create a safe space for healing and empowerment.
My primary and most recent project involved shifting Notions of Nari to the global scale. In July of 2023, I partnered with READ India, an influential non-profit organization that supports rural prosperity, to help abused, underprivileged, and rural women in the outskirts of New Delhi, India. I counseled over 24 women of various situations, households, and environments. I developed strong connections with the women, their children, and my mentors there, as they all face their own obstacles on a daily basis.
Engaging with rural communities has been an incredibly enriching experience. I’ve not only learned a great deal but also had the privilege of making a positive impact on the lives of numerous rural women through various empowerment initiatives. I plan on completing more remote work, raising funds for READ India, and helping my local charities.
In the future, I aspire to elevate ‘Notions of Nari’ into a widely recognized non-profit organization dedicated to championing the well-being of women. Additionally, I am committed to embarking on more charity trips, personally engaging with communities in need, and effecting positive change through direct action and support.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being in the entertainment industry is never a smooth road. There are many ups and downs, but that is what builds character, perseverance, and success.
I have not won every pageant I have competed in, as every competition is different and requires different qualifications. However, I use the loss to work harder towards my future wins. It motivates me to go the extra mile in my next pageant and learn from my mistakes.
Additionally, it is very easy to lose self-confidence and compare yourself to other girls in the pageant world. At first, I grappled with self-doubt, believing I might not be as qualified as the other girls in the pageants I entered. However, through introspection and hard work, I began to recognize my own worth and capabilities. I realized that I am just as good and competent as anyone else, and that shift in mindset propelled me to compete with newfound confidence and determination.
As you push yourself and your name out of your comfort zone, people tend to talk about you and try to bring you down. Amidst the competitive world of pageantry, it’s crucial to shield yourself from the negativity of others. Refusing to internalize hateful or rude opinions allows you to focus on your own journey, ultimately paving the way for success and victory on your own terms.
Last but not least, it is so crucial to stay humble and gracious. In the pageant world, it is vital as it showcases a contestant’s genuine character and integrity, going beyond mere physical appearance. It fosters an environment of mutual respect and camaraderie among competitors, judges, and the pageant community, contributing to a positive experience for all involved. Moreover, it allows contestants to connect on a deeper level with their audience, leaving a lasting impression that transcends the competition itself.
Overcoming adversity and defying odds, I navigated through numerous challenges on my journey to success in pageantry. Each setback served as a steppingstone, fortifying my determination and propelling me towards the ultimate triumph of making it big and clinching the crown.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a high school senior with a true passion for pageantry and philanthropy. I am most proud of how it has led me to pursue enticing opportunities. I take pride in my participation in pageants because they have served as a powerful platform for personal growth and self-discovery. Through this journey, I’ve learned the importance of confidence, poise, and effective communication, skills that have transcended the stage and positively impacted my everyday life. Moreover, pageantry introduced me to a world of philanthropy and social responsibility, inspiring me to channel my influence towards meaningful charity work, ultimately fostering positive change in my community. Through pageantry, I have become a brand ambassador for Terry Costa and model at New York Fashion Week. What sets me apart in the world of pageantry is my unwavering commitment to authenticity. I believe in showcasing my true self unapologetically and using my platform to advocate for causes I deeply believe in, creating a genuine connection with both the judges and audience.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have a deep appreciation for Dallas’ vibrant culture enjoying the diverse experiences it offers. The bustling shopping metroplexes provide me with ample opportunities to indulge in retail therapy. The sense of community in Dallas resonates with me, fostering a strong connection with the city and its people. I find the weather to my liking, appreciating its consistency and comfort. While the absence of a beach might be a minor downside, the lively atmosphere and engaging activities more than compensate for it, leaving me thoroughly satisfied with my life in Dallas.
