Life & Work with Rajita Singh of Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rajita Singh.

Hi Rajita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The People’s Impact Network (PIN) was born from a simple act of compassion that sparked something much greater. In 2020, a group of friends launched an initiative called Clothes for Caring to support a friend facing a life-altering ALS diagnosis. They began collecting and selling gently used south asian clothes to help cover medical expenses.

What began as a small gesture of love quickly evolved into a powerful movement. The project not only brought financial relief but also united the community, showcasing the transformative power of collective action.

That spirit lives on through PIN. Today, we continue to build on those roots with a mission to:

• Support those in need

• Promote sustainable fashion

• Foster a strong sense of community

By facilitating the reuse of South Asian and ethnic clothing, PIN champions sustainability while funding programs that make a lasting impact. One garment at a time, we’re turning compassion into action.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our biggest challenge has been associated largely by being “first and probably the only non profit” working in this field. There is no pre-educated customer base, or existing standard infrastructure, allowing us to define the categories, set prices, and build brand loyalty. While this offers advantages, it requires educating customers and carries risks like high drop outs. Our customers have never “thrifted” south asian clothes so the concept is new and they lack a frame of reference. There is an absence of established logistics and partnerships.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Board and volunteers at Peoples Impact Network strive to building stronger communities through meaningful action. We work on the principle of Triple Win:
1. We ask you to declutter your closet and donate “rehomable” south asian clothing. These are not just expensive clothes, they are our stories influenced by a rich cultural heritage.
2. We sell these beautiful clothes at very affordable prices to the community.
3. Funds raised in the process are given back to the community in form of micro grants to smaller non profits all over USA.

We are most proud of the impact we have made in just a span of 6 years. Till 2025, we have
-given $250K in grants
-45K Items rehomed
-80000 hours of volunteering

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Building stronger communities through meaningful action. We are very proud of our first in US retail store in Plano, TX with clothing that is 100 percent donated by generous donors from the community. It makes us happy to see these beautiful clothes find new loving homes, bringing sustainability to the forefront of south asian fashion.
