Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Carroll.
Hi Rhonda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I am known by Ms. Rhonda C. I am the owner of She Sew Xtra Braiding & Weaving Salon. There I am a professional Braider / Weaver who specializes in protective styling. I’m a mother of 3 beautiful babies Kai, Nobi, & Avia and a wife to my supportive husband Fred.
I started out doing hair in high school. I would do all my friend’s hair and would make them feel beautiful. Then in college, I put a sign on my dorm room door with a hair price list so that the ladies in the dorm would see the sign and want to get their hair done. I always had a creative way of drawing people in to be my client. I gave up on doing hair for a while after college and picked up a job working for AT&T in St. Louis, Mo, where I was born and raised.
Then I met my husband, who urged me to get back into doing what I love. Overtime I would evolve to a more professional home-style salon. My clients loved coming to my comfy basement salon in the privacy of my small 3 bedroom home. My clients were like my besties coming over for a visit while I styled their hair. It never felt like work to me. My husband and I eventually moved to Texas, where I continued to braid and weave hair from home. My clientele began to grow tremendously, which led me to establish myself as a professional braider/weaver then opened a small salon suite. Initially, I was terrified. However it turned out to be best decision I’ve ever made. I started out with a small suite. We were given the opportunity to expanded to a custom double Suite with much larger space. I now -along with the Braiding Salon-own & operate a Retail store supplying hair extensions & Wigs, called Kainovi Luxury.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest struggle was the battle against myself. I would constantly compare my success with others and wonder if I was good enough. I felt I didn’t have what I needed to be successful, so I struggled with whether or not I deserved it. I would constantly question my worth. But God found me worthy. I was rewarded favor despite what I lacked. My business grew because of the talent, the passion, and the work ethic I possessed. People were drawn to my professionalism, politeness, consistency, and most importantly my skills lol! Those components are vital to running any business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in braids, custom wigs and weaving. I became my clients one-stop shop. I provide everything they need to walk out confident about their hair. I also provide virgin luxury hair extensions with affordable options for every woman. Most of my clients are professional everyday women who want to look supernatural. So my specialty is providing very natural-looking installs. I also work with many women who suffer from alopecia and thinning. Women feel confident knowing that they have privacy when I service them.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I miss seeing trees and grass. Dallas is growing so much that businesses are expanding, thus taking away from nature but I must admit I’m apart of that growth. I moved to this city because of the enormous opportunities to be successful!
