Today we’d like to introduce you to Rich Cardozo.
Hi Rich, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from Houston and graduated from the University of Houston in 2016. A job opportunity led my fiancée and I to Dallas in 2017. And it was the best decision I could’ve made. When I got to Dallas, however, I was in the supply chain business. I didn’t get into real estate until late 2020.
I did love my job at the time. But due to being overworked and severely understaffed during the 2020 pandemic, I was feeling burnt out. I went to my boss at the time to ask for a pay increase, and his response shocked me, “What makes you think you’re worth a $5,000 raise? If fact, what makes you think we owe you anything?” I was speechless because these are things you only hear in the movies. With that in mind, I decided I needed to make a change. If I were going to work harder than everyone else, I knew, then I wanted to make sure my accomplishments reflected that.
I’ve always been passionate about real estate, cooking, and music. I didn’t think I would be the next Chef Ramsay or Kanye West, so I fully leaned into real estate. It was the best leap of faith taken since moving to Dallas. Helping people buy, sell, or lease real estate has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I have a chance to help educate my friends and family on how to take their investments to the next level. Helping my clients make as much money as possible is what I live for!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I thought I worked hard until I became a real estate agent. 80% of agents fail their 1st year. And very few make it past a couple of months. Most people fail to realize how much hard work goes into being an agent. It’s impossible to thrive without having market knowledge, understanding contracts, and having a plan to succeed. This is a career where you eat what you kill, and you’re thrown to the wolves your first couple of months.
Over time, I built the confidence and knowledge I needed for my business. All the hard work I had put in at the beginning of my first year finally paid off. Now I’m looking to double my performance and help twice the amount of people get into their first home or build up their investments.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve helped people of all facets of real estate: first-time home buyers, investors, divorced couples, and even families who have lost a loved one. Every home has a story to tell. And my job is to see whose pages fit inside that book. And at the end of the day, my clients are my family. I’m proud of the fact that people see me as someone who genuinely cares and wants to help. If I have a come-up, everyone else is coming up with me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has very little to do with real estate. If you show up, dress up, and put the work in, anyone can succeed!
