Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Tran.
Hi Ricky, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started after a spontaneous foodie trip where I had Nashville Hot Chicken (NHC) for the first time roughly in 2017. It absolutely blew me away because it was nothing my taste buds have ever been exposed to! The after-effects still lingered long after the trip after trying every form of NHC in Dallas. Nothing was even close to what I had on my trip and it was disappointment after disappointment so I figured I would just try to make my own! Fast forward to 2019 – 2 years later, multiple revisions, personally meeting complete strangers off Instagram to give samples of my NHC that all shared the same interest, great hot chicken, we signed Ricky’s first brick and mortar lease in Richardson. Ricky’s Richardson officially opened Feb. 7 2020 and Ricky’s Arlington opened Feb. 27, 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There will always be challenges and adversities. Our main one being Covid-19 hitting the world 1 month after we opened. We are more than grateful and humbled that we are still here and owe it to everyone who have supported us!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I find it most rewarding when I can mentor or give guidance to anyone who wants to learn from my experiences. Eventually, I would like to be a motivational speaker but my wife would have to approve that first.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be open-minded and never shy away from asking questions or why you do certain things. Surround yourself around 5 successful individuals and you will be the 6th.
