Today we’d like to introduce you to Royce Walston.
Hi Royce, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our journey into wedding photography didn’t begin in ballrooms or at the altar — it began with storytelling.
Royce actually started behind the camera photographing cycling races. There’s something powerful about capturing motion, grit, and raw emotion in real time. That early experience shaped how we see weddings today. A wedding day moves fast. It’s unscripted. It’s emotional. And you only get one chance to catch it as it unfolds.
What began as a creative passion slowly turned into something much bigger. Friends trusted us with their wedding days. Then friends of friends. And before long, we realized this wasn’t just photography — it was legacy work. We weren’t simply taking pictures. We were preserving moments families would hold onto for generations.
Michelle joined the journey after experiencing firsthand how meaningful it is to document love stories. Together, we found a rhythm — blending documentary storytelling with gentle guidance so couples never feel stiff or overly posed. Our goal has always been to create space for real connection.
Over the years, we’ve photographed more than 200 weddings across Texas and throughout the U.S., from intimate elopements to large-scale celebrations. Each one has refined our approach and deepened our belief that the most powerful images aren’t manufactured — they’re felt.
Today, we’re based in Texas and regularly serve couples in Dallas and beyond. What’s changed over the years is our experience. What hasn’t changed is our purpose: to create images that bring couples back to exactly how their wedding day felt — not just how it looked.
And honestly? We’re still just as captivated by it all as we were in the beginning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
That’s a great question — and the honest answer is no, it hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. But the challenges shaped us into better photographers and better business owners.
When you first start out, you’re doing everything. Shooting, editing, marketing, client communication, album design — often late into the night. There were seasons where we were learning not just how to photograph weddings, but how to run a business. Creative growth is one thing; building systems, pricing sustainably, and learning how to serve clients well at scale is another.
There’s also the pressure that comes with photographing once-in-a-lifetime moments. Weddings don’t have do-overs. Early on, that weight can feel heavy. Over time, we learned to channel that responsibility into preparation — building workflows, backup systems, and refining our ability to anticipate moments before they happen.
And like many in the wedding industry, navigating uncertainty during slower seasons or industry shifts forced us to adapt. We leaned into strengthening our client experience, improving turnaround times, and sharpening our storytelling style rather than chasing trends.
Every challenge pushed us to get clearer on who we are and how we serve couples best. We realized we didn’t want to be the loudest brand in the room — we wanted to be the most trusted presence on a wedding day.
Looking back, the road wasn’t perfectly smooth — but it was purposeful. And the lessons along the way are exactly what allow us to walk into every Dallas wedding with confidence, calm, and the experience to handle whatever the day brings.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are wedding photographers who specialize in documenting weddings in a way that feels honest, emotional, and true to each couple. Our work is rooted in a documentary, storytelling approach—capturing real moments as they unfold rather than relying on stiff poses or overly directed scenes. We photograph everything from intimate ceremonies to full-scale celebrations, serving couples throughout Dallas, across Texas, and throughout the U.S.
What we’re known for most is creating images that feel natural and deeply personal. Couples often tell us they felt comfortable and fully present on their wedding day, which allowed genuine moments to happen without interruption. We guide when needed, especially during portraits, but our focus is always on connection rather than perfection. The result is a collection of images that reflects not just how the day looked, but how it felt.
One of the things we’re most proud of is the trust couples place in us. Being invited into such meaningful moments is something we never take lightly. We’ve photographed more than 200 weddings, and each one has reinforced our belief that photography isn’t just about documenting events—it’s about preserving memories that grow more valuable over time. Knowing our images will be part of a family’s history for generations is incredibly meaningful to us.
What sets us apart is both our approach and our presence. We bring a calm, steady energy to the wedding day, helping couples feel at ease even in fast-moving or emotional moments. Our background in storytelling allows us to anticipate moments before they happen, so nothing important is missed. At the same time, we blend into the celebration naturally, allowing couples and their families to be themselves.
We also believe that the experience matters just as much as the final images. From the first conversation to the final delivery, we focus on making the process simple, comfortable, and enjoyable. At the end of the day, our goal is for couples to walk away with more than beautiful photographs. We want them to have a visual story that brings them back to one of the most meaningful days of their lives, exactly as they remember it.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Great question — and one we’ve been thinking about a lot as the wedding world evolves. The next 5–10 years in wedding photography are headed toward authenticity, experience, and storytelling — and that shift is something we’re really passionate about.
1. Story first, posed second (or not at all).
Couples today value how their wedding felt more than how it looked, and that’s only accelerating. People want photos that capture real emotion, real connection, and real joy — not stiff, tightly-posed images that could be anywhere. That means documentary and photojournalistic styles are becoming the standard, not just a trend.
2. Authentic experience over perfection.
Bringing ease to a wedding day is going to continue being huge. Photographers are becoming more like collaborators or calm presences, helping couples feel at ease rather than directing every moment. The industry is shifting away from rigid timelines and toward flexible, experience-driven workflows that honor how couples want to live their day.
3. Visual storytelling meets multimedia.
Still images will continue to be essential — but couples are also telling their day’s story through short videos, social clips, slideshows, and digital storytelling pieces. Creatives who can blend photography with motion, sound, and narrative will stand out.
4. Personalization is everything.
Couples are less interested in cookie-cutter packages and more interested in photographers who understand their vision and vibe. That means tailored experiences, custom galleries, and curated albums that reflect individual personalities.
5. Technology enhances, doesn’t replace, creativity.
AI and editing tools will continue to evolve, but they won’t replace the photographer’s eye. Instead, these tools will help streamline workflows — freeing photographers to spend more time being present on the wedding day and refining the creative craft.
6. Sustainability and intentional choices matter.
We’re seeing couples make more thoughtful choices — from eco-friendly celebrations to meaningful, smaller weddings that focus more on connection than scale. Photographers who can capture the emotion in these intentional moments will be increasingly sought after.
7. Community and education grow.
There’s a big focus on education and mentorship now. Photographers are sharing knowledge, supporting each other, and building collective growth. That means better quality work across the industry and more opportunities for emerging artists.
In short, the industry is moving in a direction that celebrates authenticity, intentional moments, and real connection — and that’s a shift we’re excited to be part of. It’s less about perfectly staged photos and more about the story your wedding tells, and that aligns beautifully with why we got into this in the first place.
