Life & Work with Sara Abdel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Abdel.

Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
To be completely honest my journey to this business started out as a joke. I was spending too much time on Instagram and TikTok and somehow all of these baking videos started coming on my feed. It was also when cocoa bombs were super popular, so I was joking around with my friend and telling her I can make that! I made a few, and everyone loved them so then I just started selling them. Next, I moved on to making chocolate-covered strawberries and then cake pops and the rest is history. As a single mom this way the perfect way to make extra income and it allowed me to tap into my creative side that I hadn’t given a chance to explore in a long time. Now I’m exploring more into the cake field and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It most definitely has not been the smoothest road. Between balancing the side business and a full-time job, I have run into my fair share of obstacles. Talking to customers, setting policies, and figuring out pricing have all been such a difficult journey and it’s constantly changing but on the bright side, it keeps me on my toes.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a product engineer by trade and baker/chocolatier on the side. I love to see the sort of creations that my clients come up with and how much faith they have in me to allow me to bring their vision to life. My favorite part about this business is that I am a part of so many celebrations and so many happy events that it makes my heart truly burst. I think one of the biggest things that I’m proud of is that I am constantly improving my designs and I am learning so much along the way. To see you where I have started and compare it to my latest designs is so crazy to me; there’s so many tips and tricks that I can give to others that are just starting out.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when we would wake up super early on the weekends and at the time, we used to live in an apartment complex and the sprinklers would go off at 7:30 in the morning and we wake up and just run through those sprinklers. It was a lot of fun, to say the least.
