Life & Work with Sarah Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Davis.

Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began planning events in a corporate setting, I loved the logistical and relational aspect of bringing people together for a common goal. For 6 years I learned from some of the very best event managers and planners, but I was being drawn to step out on my own and mix things up. I have always been driven to serve people in my community and what better way to do that than to help couples and families find peace of mind on what is considered an outrageously stressful day…Wedding Day. I decided to take a leap and provide my skill set to couples, families, and bridal parties to enjoy the moment but also reminisce on their wedding planning journey and wedding day with the fondest of memories. I set out to create packages for everyone, options that start from your basic wedding day coordination/planning assistance to the full service. From design to setup & cleanup to returning marriage licenses the next business day, I wanted to help with it all. And so, it began! I’ve met and worked with so many wonderful couples and vendors since 2020 and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. When a bride, mom, or family member walks into a venue I can see that my work matters, their happy smiles and peaceful disposition drives me to continue my business.

I’m very passionate about events but more importantly, I care about people, I want everyone to have the wedding of their dreams regardless of budget or other obstacles. Together with my clients and vendor friends we make magic happen each weekend. I’m immensely grateful for my journey, my clients, and my professional event community. This is my dream job and I’m lucky to live it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I launched my business during a pandemic, smooth isn’t exactly what I would use to describe that part of the journey. However, it pushed me to be more creative and flexible than I ever thought possible. I learned how to turn an indoor wedding of 200 into an outdoor CDC-compliant event and we had an amazing day! I take that momentum into every obstacle or issue I encounter. Every event or wedding, big or small, will have a few hiccups along the way – I believe how you deal with them is what sets you apart, keeping your cool and coming up with reasonable solutions makes a huge difference. I enjoy working with and learning from seasoned event professionals because they’ve seen it all! So, I started joining networking groups, societies, you name it – I was game to attend. Discussing our challenges both past and present has been so key in my success. Having a support system of other professionals to bounce ideas off of or ask for guidance not only benefits my business but also all of my current and future clients. Being a small business owner comes with so many challenges, it’s rewarding don’t get me wrong, but when you own your own business, you are HR, IT, CEO, CFO, Customer Service, Secretary, Social Media Manager, and so many other hats! It’s a fine balance of work and life. So, this year I’m hiring an additional coordinator, she’s an amazing person and we work so well together! My clients love her, and she strives for perfection in everything she touches!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Every event I take on is unique – my goal is to make the event memorable, peaceful and seamless. Sometimes that means doing things that aren’t listed in the package. I’m not afraid to lug a 50-gal bag of garbage to the dumpster and I’ve never said “that’s not my job”. If I see a need, I manage it. If I can’t, I find someone who can. Every problem has a solution. I’m lucky to be working alongside so many talented event professionals. I trust them to do their jobs and offer my help if they ever need it. I value their input, suggestions, and our relationship. Events are a team effort; everyone gets the credit for a fantastic event!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Providing balance. Life is constantly throwing curveballs, from workflow to family dynamics to global pandemics. You never know what’s to come. I named my company Bee Balanced Events because I know that planning a wedding, engagement party, anniversary party, or corporate event is a full-time gig. It can get stressful, overwhelming, and just plain unenjoyable – it’s easy to lose sight of why you’re planning something in the first place. So, when you hire me, I provide balance. We work together to hit that perfect note of involvement, creativity, and covering all the logistics.
