Life & Work with Shakera Rivers of Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakera Rivers

Hi Shakera, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My Journey: From Beauty to Wellness

My journey into health, wellness, and fitness began with beauty. From a young age, I was captivated by the transformative power of hair, makeup, and fashion. I started doing my own hair at just eight years old—experimenting as much as my parents allowed. By high school, I was not only styling my own hair but also waxing, plucking my eyebrows, and sneaking makeup to school.

Right after high school, I attended cosmetology school, graduated, and quickly started offering beauty services professionally. I launched my first business, Allure Image Consulting, with the tagline: Because First Impressions Always Count. My focus was on helping professional women craft an image that exuded confidence and grace—choosing colors that complemented their skin tone, applying minimal but effective makeup, and curating wardrobes that commanded attention and respect.

Yet, beneath the surface of beauty, I discovered an undeniable truth: many women sought transformation not just in their appearance but in their overall well-being. Clients wanted makeup to conceal acne, outfits to hide extra weight, and new wardrobes to rediscover themselves after motherhood. The root of these concerns was always deeper—health and wellness.

As I navigated my own journey into motherhood, I encountered chronic health issues that no doctor could solve beyond offering more medications. Desperate for answers, I dove into researching nutrition and holistic healing. This quest led me to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), a decision that became the most transformative step in my life. Through IIN, I unearthed the profound impact of food and lifestyle on health.

I continued expanding my knowledge, earning multiple certifications: Group Fitness Instructor, Hatha Yoga 200-hour Certification, Sports Nutrition, Hormone Health, Barre, and Cycle. Moving to Texas in 2015 presented my greatest opportunity yet—leading a wellness program at the Dallas County Jail, teaching fitness classes at The Little Elm Rec Center, and growing my online platform, GlowBeautyWellness—Where Health, Beauty, and Glamour Meet.

My mission is simple yet powerful: To help every woman recognize her immeasurable worth—to her family, to society, and most importantly, to herself. Women are the healers of the world. When we nourish ourselves, we nourish those around us. Running on empty leads to illness and dis-ease. Pouring into ourselves is not selfish—it is essential.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to true wellness is rarely a smooth one—especially in a world that thrives on quick fixes. I know this firsthand because I’ve been down that road myself, jumping from one fad diet to the next, hoping for lasting results, only to find myself right back where I started. The cycle was exhausting, and it took time to realize that true wellness isn’t found in temporary solutions—it has to be a lifestyle.

One of the biggest challenges I face is convincing women that wellness is not just about what you eat or how much you exercise; it’s about how you live, how you nourish your mind, and how you show up for yourself every day. But despite the challenges, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping women shift their perspective and guiding them toward sustainable, long-term health. Seeing them break free from the cycle of quick fixes and embrace real transformation is what fuels my passion.

When COVID hit, everything changed overnight. In-person classes came to an abrupt halt, and suddenly, I had to figure out how to translate the energy, connection, and impact of those sessions into an online space. It wasn’t easy, and I deeply missed the in-person interaction with my students. But looking back, that time was a hidden blessing. It gave me the space to grow—not just as a coach, but as a woman. I learned new ways to reach and support my community, and in doing so, I became stronger and more adaptable.

As I continue to evolve, so do the women who trust me and follow my guidance. Growth is a continuous journey, and I am honored to walk this path alongside them, helping them embrace wellness as a way of life—not just another fleeting trend.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do what I do because I truly believe in taking the best care of myself—physically, mentally, and emotionally—so I can show up fully as a wife, mother, and business partner. My own healing journey and transformation have been deeply personal, and I am proud of the work I’ve done to become the best version of myself.

I don’t just talk about wellness—I live it. In a world where many preach but don’t practice, integrity is everything to me. When someone entrusts me with their biggest health concerns, I see that as a profound responsibility, one that I take seriously.

What I’m most proud of is sharing my journey—both the victories and the struggles—openly with my clients and my community. I want them to see that transformation is possible, that with dedication and hard work, they too can create lasting change in their lives.

What makes you happy?
Being of service to my family is one of my greatest joys. Guiding my loved ones—especially our children—toward a life filled with happiness, peace, and purpose is what inspires me every day. Why? Because we are living in extraordinary times, where stress, distractions, and unhealthy habits are more common than ever. But I truly believe that if we can inspire the next generation to live holistically—nurturing their mind, body, and spirit—we have the power to create real change.

When we teach our children to prioritize their well-being, to find balance, and to embrace a lifestyle rooted in health and mindfulness, we aren’t just shaping their future—we’re healing the world, one family at a time. And that, to me, is the most meaningful work of all.
