Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamica Sweat.
Hi Shamica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love affair with weddings started when I was just 13 years old. I remember attending my very first wedding and being completely swept away, the music, the flowers, the fashion, the sheer joy of it all. In that moment, I knew weddings would always have to be a part of my life.
My story really begins with a love for creating unforgettable experiences. I didn’t grow up saying, “I’m going to be a luxury wedding planner,” but I’ve always been drawn to beauty, details, and the way a well-designed space makes people feel. That passion led me to launch my first company in St. Louis, MO., The Pink Tuxedos Wedding and Event Planning, a brand full of fun and personality that gave me the foundation to learn, grow, and discover my voice in the industry.
Fast forward a few years, and I took the leap into planning with my very first company in St. Louis, The Pink Tuxedos Wedding and Event Planning. It was bold, fun, and a little quirky, truly a reflection of my early days of hustling, learning, and saying “yes” to just about everything. That chapter gave me the foundation I needed to understand the ropes of the industry and discover my own voice as a planner. When I relocated to Dallas, I knew it was time to elevate. That’s when Shamica & Co. was born, rooted in the vision of curating high-touch, luxury weddings and events where every detail is intentional and every guest feels considered. Today, it’s grown into a brand dedicated to creating experiences that are as breathtaking as they are unforgettable.
Over the years, my company has grown from planning into a multi-division brand. Today, Shamica & Co. encompasses not just wedding and event design, but also Morgan Mason Luxury Event Rentals & Activations, a travel division, and even an educational platform where I mentor and teach upcoming planners. I’ve had the joy of speaking on stages, serving in leadership with NACE, and sharpening my business acumen through the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, all while keeping my focus on love, design, and legacy.
The journey hasn’t always been glamorous or straightforward. It’s been late nights, trusting God’s timing, learning to build systems, and leaning on the right team. What’s carried me through is equal parts faith, grit, and a genuine obsession with giving couples a wedding that feels like them, luxurious, intentional, and unforgettable. For me, it’s never been just about planning weddings. It’s about curating memories, building community, and leaving behind a legacy of love and beauty that lasts far beyond the wedding day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, and honestly, I don’t think entrepreneurship ever is. There have been seasons of starting over, rebuilding, and figuring things out the hard way. In the early days, I said “yes” to everything just to get experience, which meant long hours and sometimes learning lessons the tough way. When I moved to Dallas, I essentially had to start from scratch, new market, new network, new challenges, and that was humbling.
There were also the behind-the-scenes struggles most people don’t see: learning how to balance being a mom and a CEO, building systems to keep my business running smoothly, finding and training the right team, and trusting God’s timing when things didn’t move as quickly as I wanted them to. Add to that the natural ups and downs of the wedding industry—shifting trends, economic changes, and even a pandemic that hit events especially hard, and you can imagine it hasn’t always been easy.
But every challenge has sharpened me. Those hard moments taught me resilience, reminded me to lean into faith, and pushed me to grow both as a businesswoman and as a leader. Looking back, the struggles were necessary, they stretched me and shaped the vision I carry today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Shamica & Co., we specialize in curating luxury weddings and events that are equal parts beautiful and unforgettable. We’re not just about timelines and checklists, we’re about crafting experiences where design, guest experience, and intentional details come together to tell a client’s story in the most elevated way possible. I’m most proud of the fact that Shamica & Co. has grown into a brand that people feel. It’s not just about the flowers or the table settings (though we love those too!), it’s about creating a sense of awe, warmth, and connection.
Beyond planning and design, we’ve expanded into Morgan Mason Luxury Event Rentals & Activations, and this is a big part of what sets us apart, how we think about the guests. We create events where every guest feels engaged and considered in the planning, not just an afterthought. For instance, we love creating interactive activations at events, things that surprise and delight while showing the clients love and appreciation for their friends and family. Whether it’s a perfume bar, curated gifting, or entertainment moments woven throughout the night, it’s all about keeping guests engaged and making them feel like a meaningful part of the celebration.
What truly sets us apart is the way we marry luxury with intentionality. A lot of planners can create something beautiful, but at Shamica & Co., we dig deeper. We design with heart, we serve with excellence, and we obsess over the little details that make an event feel like you. Clients don’t just hire us for logistics, they hire us because we care about their vision as much as they do, and we bring it to life in a way that is seamless, stylish, and unforgettable.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is legacy. Not just in the sense of building a successful business, but in the way I impact people, my family, my clients, my community, and the next generation of planners. I want my children to see that with faith, hard work, and vision, they can create the life they dream of. I want my clients to look back and feel that their wedding wasn’t just planned, it was loved into existence with care, intentionality, and excellence.
Faith is also at the center of everything I do. It’s what keeps me grounded when challenges come and what pushes me to keep dreaming bigger. Success is wonderful, but what really matters is the way people feel after working with me, that they were seen, considered, and celebrated.
At the end of the day, what matters most is leaving behind more than beautiful events. It’s about leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and possibility that inspires others long after the flowers fade and the lights go out.
