Life & Work with Sherry James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry James.

Hi Sherry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After almost 30 years in varying corporate leadership positions, a divorce, and therapy, I what I was forced to deal that was the trauma of my parent’s death many years ago due to mental illness. In 2019, I started a consulting firm focused on speaking, coaching and leadership courses that focused on mental wealth and suicide prevention. Later that year, I also created a non-profit organization: 2020 Lives Changed, Inc so that we could provide the same teaching to schools and other nonprofit orgs. We did this by delivering the same training pro bono services as in-kind donations from our non-profit as the content delivered to our paying clients.

Throughout the pandemic, even though there were no paying clients, I continued to reach out to encourage others to #HealOutLoud while dealing with finding and beginning my own health care journey. I started multiple IG Live shows where I interviewed people to see how the pandemic was impacting their mental health. I spoke for free and took on pro bono clients to help them to deal with the unprecedented times of 2020 and 2021.

Now, with the same business model, we are launching two streaming TV shows: “The Creating Mental Wealth Show” and “Heal Out Loud” both to appear on AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and more.

With pandemic restrictions slowly being lifted, I am excited to get back on stage and teach the masses how to become mentally wealthy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Keeping a team of volunteers was a challenge for sure as the time came for people to go back to work. I’m proud to say that the core team in place today is solid since 2019.

Being public about my mental health struggles has caused issues with my family and children as my conversation impacts and affects their lives as well. Both are now supportive and understanding of the work that I’m doing and we all are in therapy to work on becoming better versions of ourselves.

Financially, we have struggled to keep the business up and running for almost 3 years now, and we are committed to not giving up. Selling commercial ads and converting some of my network to corporate Sponsors will make us viable quickly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
It’s interesting to look back and revisit where my career has taken me me over the years. I started out in training and development, moved into project management and technology, and rounded out my career with a passion for teaching the next generation of leaders. I’m most proud of the number of servant leaders that have been impacted positively by my leadership-my children especially.

My background is unique: I am doing this work because I lost both parents to mental illness (suicide), and I am determined to take my ability to reach, speak publicly, manage multimillion-dollar projects, and utilize new and emerging technologies to save lives. One. Heart. At. A. Time.
