Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Rousseau.
Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
When I was younger, I tried to do the whole acting and modeling scene. On top of that really wanted to open my own boutique only to I realized a few years in that it wasn’t my time, I was too young and I wanted really to focus on studies. While still trying to fulfill my dreams, I worked for a New York real-estate company doing their social media pages so that I could somewhat stay in touch with my dreams. After high school, I started 2 other jobs to pay support my dreams of opening a boutique, in hopes that I could make a statement and encourage girls to wear what they want to wear, no matter what someone might think. Pretty soon TikTok came out and after a few viral videos, 4 new businesses, and God’s timing. I know am at 1M on TikTok, 111k on Instagram, and run 5 successful businesses!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was Defiantly not an easy ride. At one point, I felt like I had a whole hometown against me. Making fun of me for pursuing social media, and owning my own business. Bullying me online, laughing, reposting my videos making fun of them. Along with the rude comments on videos from people that I had never met, that can really make you want to quit. There definitely are two people in this world, the ones that would run away from that and who wouldn’t even want to touch this world/industry with a 10-foot pole. Then there’s those who run towards it, they see it as a challenge, those who can handle it better per se. It’s tough dealing with the backlash that comes from it, you just have to be tougher. My little sister really wants to do social media too, and although I love her and want her dreams to come true also. I wouldn’t want this life for her, her hearts too soft and kind, people in this industry see that and will go out of there way hurt you. Sadly,
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, before I was an “influencer” I was a server and boutique owner. I think that alone sets me apart from most because I was a business owner first. I did all the tough things I had to do to make sales and get my name out there, that a lot nowadays don’t have to do because they become and influencer then a business owner. Which makes it easier! Once my social media career took off, I then opened my Lash Business, Styled By Tay, My Mobile Bar Business, and then soon to open a Western Content House. I would say I’m most proud of my boutique because I did that on my own, no one knew who I was or who my store was. Now here I am. I did that. That makes me happy! I would say I am most know for my fashion looks, and being the Queen Buckle Bunny. Someone had to try to change that stigma, someone had to take away others power to degrade us women in the western industry. So, I figured I would take one for the team, at least more women would feel more comfortable/welcomed in this industry!
What does success mean to you?
I think success looks different to everyone. The richest people in the world can be some of the most unhappy people. That doesn’t seem like success to me. Success to me is working towards your goals in life, and being proud of yourself for getting to that point once you make it. If being a mom is your goal in life, and you final get to that point and you’re happy and content. Well, I would call that a successful life.
