Life & Work with Terrance Smith

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Terrance Smith again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Terrance, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
Hello,

My name is Terrance Smith and I’m the owner and pitmaster of Smith Spot BBQ. I run a BBQ restaurant at 823 Main St in Garland, Tx along with a concession catering trailer. We sell a variety of sammiches along with the traditional ribs, brisket sausage without the traditional taste. What sets me apart from others is my freedom to create.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Since the last time we spoke I was selling BBQ at the Dallas Farmers Market located in Downtown Dallas. Since then several things have happened. I opened a restaurant in Garland Tx and have received severa recognitions. We were approached by Destination Dallas to participate in a show on Season 2. The Dallas Morning News contacted us for news articles along with Eater Dallas, What Now DFW and Texas Monthly. The BBQ editor of Texas Monthly Magazine Daniel Vaughn came to enjoy a meal at the restaurant and later published an article. This articles is titled “My Favorite Texas Bites of 2024” and our signature sammiches “Lady Mel” was listed as one of his favorite bites. He mentioned in the article that it’s possible that those listed in the article were in the running for Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ in Texas. Also, we were accepted into the State Fair of Texas in 2024. We served an item called The Nephew which was a brisket donut and Quick Draw McGraw (stuffed sweet potato, w brisket Mac n cheese and collard greens). Both items quickly went viral and were a crowd favorite at the State Fair of Texas.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.
