Life & Work with Tina Wilkins of Southlake, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Wilkins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with Dragons Care began through a meaningful friendship and a shared passion for service. The organization was founded by my friend Virginia Hinkle, who saw a need to support public school employees in the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, Texas who are facing medical hardships or family tragedies. When she approached me about joining Dragons Care, she felt my skills and heart for the community would be a strong fit. I stepped into the role of Vice President of Operations two years ago, and it has been an honor to help further the mission of an organization that directly impacts the lives of those who give so much to our schools.

Serving with Dragons Care allows me to give back to the community that supports our families and children every day. Being involved in this work is also deeply personal to me—I want to model compassion, leadership, and service for my own children. That desire was shaped early in life by watching my mother’s active involvement in PTA and the Educational Foundation, where I learned the importance of showing up and helping where you can. Dragons Care brings those values full circle, and I am grateful to play a role in making a difference for our educators and staff when they need it most

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We had some minor struggles along the way, as any new non-profit does. We have a fantastic Executive Team and Board of Directors who have helped guide us along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Dragons Care is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports the teachers, staff, and School Resource Officers (SRO’s) of Carroll ISD (CISD) as they walk through personal hardships brought on by illness, injury or family tragedy. We exist to serve, support and love our staff in their time of need as they care for our children on a daily basis.

Our hope is that by strengthening parent-staff relations, it will bring more unity within our school district and demonstrate to the CISD staff how much our community truly values them.

In addition, it is our intention that the outpouring of community involvement and support towards the staff of Carroll ISD will also increase retention and recruitment of excellent staff for the school district, an important component in providing a high-quality educational experience for students.

I am so proud of the work we are doing in our district. We are supporting the staff through fundraising when they need it the most. During their most trying times, we are here to show them that they are not alone.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We are hoping to expand our fundraising capabilities and potentially create a program that could be handed to other districts to be implemented for their teachers and staff.
