Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenton Tebow
Trenton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got started doing stand up in my hometown of Mineral Wells in September of 2022, during my senior year at Tarleton State University. After doing a few open mics I was picked up by a headliner and feature act and started traveling doing shows with them. My first show was at Hyenas Fort Worth and I’ve been hooked ever since. That first year I traveled all across Northwest Texas, Oklahoma, and out to East Texas. I’ve just never stopped and met a lot of cool people who have helped me along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve worked the same job all through college, it worked well with my schedule and paid fine so it was a perfect fit. Of course the plan was to get another job after graduating but then stand up started taking off so I decided to just stick it out with the job that let me practically build my own schedule and pay my bills. It’s been a personal struggle because I’ve had to conquer my own ego. This job while I don’t care for it allows me to pursue stand up and that’s really what I need.
Another struggle I went through was on Friday the 13th of October, 2023 I was on my way to go open up for a famous comedian when I was rear ended by a semi truck. The truck hit me hard enough to result in a 6 car pile up and I received a traumatic brain injury. I lost at least 6 months of memory prior to the accident (pieces not all concurrent). I also continued to lose memory afterwards. I missed out on an amazing opportunity and the accident has damaged my brain to where I have a more difficult time memorizing material.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a stand up comic based out of the Fort Worth area. I don’t really fit into any boxes which I pride myself on. I wouldn’t say my style is super unique just to me but I am plainly myself on stage. What I do to try and set myself apart from others in my field is I write more than most. While sometimes it does come with some consequences of not polishing up older material, there is no better feeling that crushing with a new joke.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the community that’s been built, I’ve met comedians from other cities that are blown away at how tight knit and supportive our scene is and how we actually want to see each other succeed. The downside for dfw is how far away everything can be. Having to drive 2 hours to do a show in Plano or Terrell.
