Today we’d like to introduce you to Troublesome County.
Hello Troublesome County, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We formed Troublesome County in college—right on the brink of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once Covid broke loose, we pretty much spent our first year in the studio. In the almost two years since then, we’ve played all over west Texas, and also played a little in New Mexico and Oklahoma. We originally formed in Lubbock, Texas, but we’ve recently relocated to the DFW area in pursuit of the larger music scene. We are super excited to be playing and furthering our career here. We’re actually working on an album right now as well; we’re hoping to have it out later this fall or in the early winter.
We’d love for the readers to continue following along with our journey via social media! They can find us @troublesomecounty on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, to learn what venues we’ll be playing in the area, and they’ll also get the scoop on the new album as soon as it comes out.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The music industry is never a smooth road. We’ve faced all types of struggles, from poorly managed venues to hard-to-handle hired musicians, to having recorded work that was never sent back to us after a session, and even losing money because of decisions to do business with friends. If you can name it, it’s probably happened to us. We’ve also been actively pursuing careers in music from a young age; while still in college, as newlyweds, and while working 2 to 3 jobs each. While others our age were partying in bars on the weekends and after work or school, we were in the studio recording until sometimes 2 AM, just to have to get up and go to work at 7 AM the next day. If it wasn’t recording, it was playing shows. Sometimes we’d be playing 3-4 shows per week, while still working around full-time jobs. But, as the saying goes, nothing worth having comes easily.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a Texas Country band, and we try to set ourselves apart from the rest as much as possible. I think the thing we’re most proud of is that we have two lead singers, and I also believe that’s one of the most unique things about us. We consider our music to be outside-of-the-box country because we try to make every song we release unique and a style all its own. We like to surprise our listeners every time we release new music, so they can never predict what we’ll do next.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
As cliche as it may sound, the best advice we could give would be not to compare yourself to anyone else! Every legendary musician reached success because they were different from the rest. That means they had no one to compare themselves to, and neither should you. Our second piece of advice would be to not overvalue everyone else’s opinions about your music. Music is subjective, not objective. Just as you probably don’t like every style of music in existence, you can’t expect everyone to like yours. And you CAN NOT let someone else’s opinion of you have enough power over you to change the course of your life.
