Life & Work with Tyreke Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyreke Anderson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been around music my entire life. Growing up I remember going to the studio with my Pops and watching him make music and I at the time I couldn’t really grasp ahold of the meaning behind his lyrics until I got a little older. He was often rap about the culture and the struggles of the Black Man. Similar to Pac, Nas, and even in today’s rap I’d say Kendrick.

Writing has always been easier to me rather than talking. Especially when it comes to the way I express my feelings, thoughts, etc. Poetry was something that I always enjoyed. In English class often would read poetry books and I started writing my own poems. Those poems later turned into lyrics.

With the pandemic happening, I know it put a lot of fears and strains on everyone in different ways financially, emotionally, and physically and music was what I turned to. It took me a while to actual say I want to put my music out in the world for others to listen to judge and critique.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With music, there has been many obstacles for me. First, I’m always second-guessing myself. It took years for me to develop the courage to even tell people that I could rap, and another few years for me to release it officially. 2nd thing is not sure if you’ll have the support system that you need to be successful, but I learned you have to make people a believer, they may not believe in you today, or tomorrow, but one day they will, you just have to be consistent and never give up on your dreams no matter what your occupation is. I have made mistakes that cause some people to hate me more than love me, but the path I’m on now is for the better and people will hear that when they listen to my music. The only other challenge is being able to stay financially stable because starting out you have to pay to get your name out there but in due time, no rush, I will receive everything God has for me and then some. I just know it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It’s crazy, my first official release was an entire mixtape (Now Or Never) and not a single. I just felt I wanted to do something different because this mixtape was like therapy for me to get over heartbreak. Now Or Never is special to me. So many raw emotions, unsaid words, and hidden feelings was put inside that tape. Genuinely not knowing how depressed and heartbroken I was, I thought I was just making music. It wasn’t until I recorded “Don’t Tell Me” and “Venting” is when I knew that someone had to hear this. Sometimes you think you’re in love, but on the other side, they are playing you like a puppet. I know I’m not the only guy in the world that feels like that, so I wanted others to hear my story because I know they could relate. This project isn’t a compilation of club anthems, which is coming, but a story about someone who gave their all into a relationship. I’m not perfect, but I always strived to be perfect for the relationship and we let each other down honestly.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There’s a few people that I want to give credit to. Starting off with: First and foremost, God. My manager, mentor, brother, and much more, Bill Davis Jr (@jdeb__) The amount of risks and backlash he takes just for being my manager is unbelievable. Every day he puts his name on the line to push my career and has kept me in front of an audience weekly, sometimes 3/4 times a week. He’s constantly pushing me to keep writing in my spare time, so when it’s studio time, I’m able to knock out as many songs as possible. It’s a lot more things that I wanna say but what’s understood never has to be explained.

Another person I would say is my boy Slicc TC (@slicctc) out of the East coast. I met him on a trip to NYC and somehow ended up meeting up with him one day and we been locked since. He really helped me get out of my comfort zone and realize that music could be my therapy and my career.

Last person would have to be my dawg Gus (@visionstudios.bcs), the “we the visionaries” you hear on all my music. He is the best producer in the state of Texas. Can’t wait to see him rise to the top right next to me.
