Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyria Evans.
Hi Tyria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a kid I aspired to be a Marine Biologist because I had a love for marine life. But upon graduating high school I went to Southern A&M College in Baton Rouge , La for Business Management & Marketing. After a year into the program I realized that I wasn’t as interested and needed to take up something else. As a teenager I was obsessed with all things makeup and skincare. I figured if there was something I could do in that field I’d be happy. After researching I found what an Esthetician and all the things it entails. I go to my mom with the idea and but she was not really for it. She wanted me to finish pursuing my business degree. So I go back to Southern but by the end of the semester I was extremely unhappy and no motivation to continue. Winter break is over and it’s time to return but I didn’t. Instead I was present the opportunity to move to Dallas and I went with it. I saw this as my chance to start something new. My main goal of moving to Dallas was to go to Esthetics school. Upon moving I researched lots of schools & all the different programs had to offer. I chose Aveda Institute. It was a 6 month program, 3 days a week for 11 hours a day. I was dedicated and determined so I adjusted everything to make sure I can commit my time. The program consisted of 3 months of lectures and 3 months of clinical work. 1 week into clinic COVID-19 hit and we were sent home to work virtually. In the beginning it was very difficult. Being in a hands on field , how could I learn it on an iPad?? I had to improvise and use my resources around me. My family! I purchased facial products & waxing supplies and began practicing on them. During this time is when I developed my love for waxing. Upon completion of school , state boards were next. After passing both parts I am officially licensed. Yay!! But where do I go from here ??? I applied for many jobs but was eventually offered a position with a waxing company. After a few months there I decided I wanted more. I began to look for suites and all the things I need to get one. I took my savings and invested in my own business. “Just Wax It” It was and is still very scary going into something not knowing the outcome but I love every minute. Since opening in February I have met some amazing people that have turned into my regular clients. I’m so grateful for everything. I owe it all to God for bringing me thru and showing me where and what I should be doing with my life. I wake up everyday happy knowing I provide services that make others feel good . I take pride in every wax I do knowing my client leaves satisfied.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing that you want to last comes easy. From picking the perfect products to use to growing clientele. It has all been a learning experience. But I’m steady educating myself so “Just Wax It” can’t continue to grow.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a Licensed Esthetician there are so many different things you can do. I specialize in full body waxing. Legs , underarm, eyebrows but I’m known for my Brazilians. While every Brazilian is different because everyone is different, I take pride in proving outstanding service every time. I’m happy to know my clients are so comfortable and trust me to do what I do.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was very active. Whether is was school programs or things in the community or church I was involved. I played piano, did cheerleading, basketball & softball. I tried all different things to find my niche.
