Today we’d like to introduce you to Zania Williams.
Hi Zania, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Zania Williams I’m originally from New Orleans, La I moved to Texas in 2005 after hurricane Katrina. I’m a mother of 3 girls and 2 boys.
I was looking at television one day and I seen the Cricut machine advertising. I told my family I wanted one for my birthday. I received it joined a lot of crafting groups and took of from there. I just kept making shirt and trying other things. When covid 19 came and mask was mandatory, that’s when my business took of. I went from designing five mask a week to at least 50 a week.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. The biggest struggle I have endured is trust. Everyone in the craft game pretends to want to help as if they want to see everyone make it until you start making it and they feel like it’s competition. A lot of crafters and sellers are like crabs in a barrel once you master it and don’t need help anymore. Instead of them congratulating you, they try to pull you down.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design sublimation items. I also sell sublimation blanks to people like myself who design and sell items. I’m known for my blanks. I am most proud that in a world with a lot of competition, I’m still maintaining and making money. What sets me apart from others is I want to see everyone go higher, and I don’t mind helping you get there.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
Yes, I have taken a risk. I work for a nursing agency. From Feb to June, I decided to take myself off the schedule and depend on my crafting income. I did it, and it made me go harder and hustle harder. In the process, I recognized that I was not giving crafting all that I had in me.
