Magda Plagge of Dallas Metroplex on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Magda Plagge shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Magda, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I am creating, whether I am painting, working with ceramics, or shaping a sculpture, I completely lose track of time. The process of making art draws me into a space where everything else disappears. It is within that creative flow that I find myself hitting on all cylinders. Art allows me to express my feelings, my thoughts, and even my spiritual life in ways that words never could. It is both a refuge and a relaxation activity for me, a place where my inner world becomes visible.
When I am making something with my hands, I feel like the truest version of who I am. I think people can sense that in my work. Art is the language I use to share pieces of my inner world with others, hoping others might connect with me through my art.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Magda Plagge. I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico. I am an abstract expressionist artist who creates from emotion, memory, and intuition. My work is driven by a deep desire to share what I feel—color becomes my voice, movement becomes my story, and each piece reflects a moment of life. For example, from my series entitled “Ladders”, this series reflects the ups and downs in life, and another series called “Lines of Life” conveys a message of what is life about. No matter what happens, it all helps us for good and for our spiritual growth.
Over the past seven years, I have had the privilege of exhibiting my art throughout the Dallas metroplex in galleries, collective shows, and several solo exhibitions. Every experience has shaped my artistic journey and strengthened my connection to the community.
One of my greatest joys is seeing my artwork living in the world, brightening offices, homes, and personal spaces. Knowing that my pieces bring a sense of comfort, joy, or inspiration to those who encounter them is at the heart of why I create.
My brand is simply my name, because my work is a true reflection of who I am.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I see the world today was when I realized that my creativity is a gift from God. I am a believer, and understanding that He gave me these talents and abilities changed everything for me, my purpose in life and what I live for.
When I finally understood that creating art was not just something I liked, but something He wanted me to use to express myself and share positive messages, my whole perspective shifted. I began to see my art as a purpose, not just a passion.
Since then, I have created with a different kind of joy and confidence, knowing that I am doing what I was meant to do.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I would tell her this: Do not let anyone’s doubts stop you. You can become everything you dream of. Put your life in God’s hands, do your best in everything you do, and trust in Him – the one who gives you your abilities. Fight for your dreams, even when it feels hard, and remember to enjoy every moment along the way. Time goes by fast, and every stage of your life is precious.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I see everything in life as having purpose and meaning—nothing goes wasted, though we might not know all of the “why’s”. God is sovereign, and He is the source of my life and the answer behind every question I carry. Knowing this gives me a reason to live with intention, to love others, and to care beyond myself. Even my art becomes part of that purpose, a way of reflecting the joy and meaning I’ve found in Him.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Above all, I want to be remembered as a daughter of God who lived to serve Him and others with all my heart. I hope people will see that my life was built on loving my family deeply, my husband, my daughters, my parents, and my siblings. They are my greatest treasures, and I would give everything for them.
I also hope my legacy reflects the passion I have always had for creating art. From the time I was a little girl, art has been an expression of joy, faith, and happiness. It has been a constant part of who I am and how I connect with the world around me.
But more than anything, I want my life to reflect the priority I placed on God, my family, friends, others, and art. In that order. My hope is that when people think of me, they will remember a life lived with these pillars at the center, and that my journey here was one filled with joy, faith, and a love that extended beyond myself.
