Maggie Hall of Lewisville on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Maggie Hall and have shared our conversation below.

Maggie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
The time I felt most loved and supported was during a charity event I hosted in honor of the Harbor of Hope foster care agency. I truly felt the love that day, watching people come together to not only support me but a cause that I feel so passionately about. Watching my paintings auction off to bring funds to these wonderful people at Harbor of hope was a surreal moment I will never forget.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Maggie Hall, I am the owner of two small businesses, Kinda Cool Art Shop and Kinda Cool Markets! Kinda Cool Art Shop all began in 2019, I had barely started imagining the possibility of what could be if I pursued these dreams. I started selling paintings to friends and family and realized maybe there was a chance of finding a market for what I do.
I started participating in vendor markets, selling online, promoting myself on every platform possible, and I loved it.
Throughout the process of being in these vendor markets I realized, a lot of these vendors were barely breaking even with the vendor fees they were paying. I was determined to create a space where vendors could promote their business, sell their products, and create a community of other like minded small business owners. That was when Kinda Cool Markets was born. It has now been over a year of markets that I have had the pleasure of hosting and I truly believe I have created that space I dreamed of.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents! Everyday of my life I watched my parents work tirelessly, making endless sacrifices, pushing through the hardest moments, just to give us that best life they could. My dad taught me that passion is the number one motivator in life, that if you could find your passion, that you will always find joy. My mom taught me that hard work and dedication are the only paths to success. I try everyday to show them the lessons I have learned from them, and I am grateful for the many, many, sacrifices they made for us. I could not be where I am without them.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
I was a sophomore in high school, struggling with depression and anxiety, desperately searching for an outlet.
I was presented with the elective choice every high schooler is presented with and chose art, of course. That was when I met Mr. White. He was the kind of teacher who truly cared for his students. During a time when I felt so lost, he taught me how to put all of those hard emotions into art. I remember a time when Mr. White told me to “stop believing everything you think” and told me that despite whatever I had going on in my head, none of it defined me, who I was or what I could do. He encouraged me to continue to pursuing my art, I still credit him to this day for pushing me in the right direction for the career I have built.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that individuality and making personal connections are the things that matter most to me.
In my career I have pursued individuality, and have always wanted to stay as true to myself as I can. I value the person I am and who I can become and have tried incredibly hard to create a business where that truly shines through.
This business could also never be possible without the personal connections I have made along the way. Every person I have met has pushed me to be better in ways they may not even realize, and given me opportunities I could never imagine.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Perseverance, I have and will always be the girl who will push through her hardest battles with a smile on her face.
I have been through grief, my father passed in 2022, and while I did take a moment to feel the loss, I tried everything I could to foster those emotions and put them on the canvas. I have been through sickness, I have a chiari malformation that makes day to day life difficult, but I will always make sure to make time to paint and work on the dream I have put so much time and love into. I truly hope that when all is said and done that people will always see the dedication and drive I have, and the passion I put into everything I do even through the hardest times.
