We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marielou Melchiors. Check out our conversation below.
Marielou , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Since graduating high school early, my days look quite different then friends my age. I leave the house around 9 and work at my office for as long as I want. Everyday looks slightly different because as a business owner, you never know what daily tasks or issues you need to tend to. After work, I go to the post office to drop off all my orders and go home:)
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Marielou, the founder and designer behind Marieloulou.
I started my brand last year as a high school sophomore, and it’s been incredible to see how quickly it’s grown, reaching over 20 million people who’ve discovered and fallen in love with my cozy pieces.
My original inspiration came from wanting to merge comfort with style. I kept asking myself, “How can I design something that feels incredibly comfy, yet still looks flattering?” With the little money I had, I bought my first sewing machine and started experimenting with fabrics as a complete beginner. After creating a few pieces for myself, I was stopped almost everywhere by people asking where my clothes were from, and that’s how Marieloulou was born.
Fashion and entrepreneurship are my two greatest passions. What truly sets my brand apart is the community that’s formed around it, the relationships I’ve built with customers all over the world mean everything to me.
Outside of my business, I danced ballet professionally for two and a half years and have played piano for eight. I am also trilingual and love to travel all over the world! Since graduating early, I’ve been able to dedicate even more time to growing my company. Some of my current projects include preparing my Spring/Summer 2026 collection, setting up my first office, and organizing warehouse operations as Marieloulou continues to grow.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that completely transformed how I see the world was realizing that success isn’t defined by following a traditional path, it’s created by carving your own. During my final months of school, I began to tune out the noise and listened to what truly inspired me. Instead of striving to fit in or follow trends, I found myself setting them, not out of intention, but by staying true to what felt authentic. That shift taught me one of the most valuable lessons: when you choose to walk your own path with confidence and purpose, life opens doors far greater than anything you could have imagined.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that has held me back is failing to do things to perfection. To this day, I’m learning to just go for it even I don’t exactly know what to do or if I do it perfectly. Whether it’s social media, designing pieces, or directing photoshoots, I set expectations (Sometimes unrealistic) for myself and become discouraged when things don’t go according to plan. For example, I recently got a new camera for content and have endless ideas, but I often hesitate to start because I worry my work won’t measure up to the professional content I see online. I’m learning that progress matters more than perfection, and that creativity thrives most when you allow yourself to simply begin.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say the version of me that I share publicly is real, but it’s only a small part of who I am. Most people probably see about 10% of the full picture, and even my family might only know 90%. It’s not that I’m concealing anything; it’s just that some parts of who I am feel too complex or irrelevant to fully express to anyone but myself. I think that’s something almost everyone can relate to, especially in today’s world of social media, we tend to share the parts of ourselves we want people to see, and the version we want others to perceive. Also most of my friends are on completely different paths, so it’s hard to fully express the things I’m working on or the challenges I face in my buisness.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
As a 17 year old, I feel like this answer will probably change in the future however I will 100% regret not meeting the celebrities I currently look up to and walking the runway for Paris fashion week.
