Meet Aaron Boyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Boyd.

Aaron Boyd

Hi Aaron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began playing the violin at age 7 after having watched an older sibling’s desultory music lessons with the local teacher (who would soon become my own).

When the lessons were over and the room was clear and quiet, I would sneak over to the violin case and open it, staring at it with an inexplicable fascination and desire. Lessons soon followed and the die was cast – I knew that my life would be that of a violinist, that I was wed to this instrument, even though I had no idea what that could possibly mean.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is no such thing as a smooth road in life. In my own case, the period after graduating from Juilliard was, for a number of years, really trying. I often say that I wouldn’t wish my 20s on my worst enemy.

Eventually, things fell into place, and I have gratitude for the struggles of my youth – they have given me to perspective to enjoy where I am now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I teach. Though I am a traveling violinist, I teach, and I think I might even do so when I play. My love for great music is such that I wish to evangelize the world and bring them to the beauty of the Western classical music canon. There is no greater art.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was fulfilled by my love of music which gave me sense of purpose and excitement. I recall the summer of 1987 when I watched the movie “Amadeus” (based on the life of Mozart) twice daily… twice! I knew every line. This is probably unusual behavior for most 9-year-olds. Yet, I was happy and enjoyed friendships and normal play, too. I have been described by my family as having been born with an old soul. Perhaps this is true…
