Meet Abhishek Bhaumik of Stonebrook Pediatric Dentistry in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abhishek Bhaumik.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Abhishek. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I discovered my passion for pediatric dentistry through martial arts! I grew up loving martial arts and when I was a senior in high school, I got the opportunity to teach Karate classes to kids on Saturdays. The parents would always attend the Karate classes on Saturdays as well. One special Saturday morning, one of the dads who would watch me teach his children Karate classes was a pediatric dentist and he offered me a part-time job as a pediatric dental assistant!

I was quite lost and I was struggling with personal issues in high school (ADD/anxiety/depression) so being a Karate teacher and my part-time job as a pediatric dental assistant were the highlights of my high school senior year.

Working with children through the years has helped me overcome my personal anxiety and depression issues and gave me a purpose and I created my life mission: To serve children all around the world as a mentor and role model.

I am now four years out of pediatric dentistry residency and in June 2018, I opened doors to my own pediatric dental practice: Stonebrook Pediatric Dentistry. Opening this practice was a collective effort so I can’t take all the credit for this huge milestone! Our practice mission is to: Provide mentorship and guidance through pediatric dentistry. I am blessed to have some very special team members walk into my life who choose to be a part of my team.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My practice was a scratch start-up in a retail center (Just flat concrete/no prior plumbing or occupancy). So yes lots of fun obstacles along the way!

Creating a dental practice from scratch requires one to coordinate and do business with people of various backgrounds (contractors, plumber, electrician, bank loan officer, architect, IT company, payroll company, the list goes on!). I genuinely love meeting people who have different jobs and it’s more fun to do business with people who are passionate about what they do.

I had fun making these relationships with these people who helped me start my practice and as a result they really took care of me. There were so many times I was juggling way too many things and I am so thankful for my construction, IT team, dental equipment and dental supplies team to work around my complicated schedule (I was working full time six days a week during the construction phase of the practice).

To keep it short, yes there were obstacles along the way even after our practice opened. Lots of sleepless nights. There were a lot of times this past year when I had to make some very tough decisions but I am thankful now that I experienced them. I now have an amazing team inside and outside our practice who make this journey smoother!

Stonebrook Pediatric Dentistry – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our Mission is to provide Mentorship and Guidance through Pediatric Dentistry. We specialize in taking care of newborns and children up to 18 years of age. Our practice has a lot of little details which makes it an outstanding facility to serve our young patients out of and our team combined has over 20 years of experience in pediatric dentistry. All of this results in easy, fun and anxiety free dentistry for kids. Lastly, for parents, we believe making and attending your child’s appointment should be easy! So we offer 24/7 online scheduling and paperless new patient paperwork on our website!

We are known in our area for helping children with moderate to severe dental anxiety to overcome dental anxiety. We are now also building a reputation in our area helping infants and children who are tongue-tied. We coordinate with healthcare providers to provide a team approached method to helping mothers/babies who struggle with breastfeeding, children with speech issues and children with breathing/airways issues.

I am personally most proud of my team for believing in my vision and making it their own. It brings me so much joy when I watch my team taking time with our little patients and not rushing them through different aspects of a dental appointment. Our servant attitude, taking time, listening and being patient with our little ones I believe is what sets us apart. We live in such a fast-paced culture that when parents walk into our office, they are taken back by our approach to pediatric dentistry.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by making the most out of every single day, not wasting time, spending time doing what I love and spending time with those who I care about.

This may sound cheesy but I already see myself as someone who is very successful. Despite my childhood issues with bullying, racism, body image issues, ADD, anxiety, and depression. I overcame this darkness because I developed a strong relationship with God, spent a lot of time self-reflecting and I CHOOSE to see the best in people.

I am so thankful for my God-given gift of being good with kids. Most kids are instantly at ease around me. I can’t believe I now have a private practice and earn a living doing something I love. I am loving my adult years of life!
