Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Drake Shepard.
Abigail, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a Native McKinney girl I’ve seen a lot of change. Growing up, my Dad worked in an old house on the Square Downtown. I would stand out on the balcony singing to the people walking around, and go to the little shops with my sister. Much has changed since then, as it has bloomed into the bustling place people actually travel to come see, with restaurants, shops and nightlife. After becoming a single mother, the changes multiplied exponentially for me. Some were harder than others, but one was an absolute game changer and a dream come true. Through the support of my family and close friends I was able to pursue my dream of changing people’s confidence and self-esteem. I went to esthetics school, and as soon as I graduated and was licensed, I knew I wanted more education. I couldn’t soak it up quickly enough. I trained in several different specialties and found my niche. Relaxation and Zen didn’t do it for me…I was drawn to providing treatments with real and lasting results. I live for that moment of suspense and then gratification when a client sits up and sees or feels a difference. I was fortunate to open my dream studio in the very same building I grew up pretending and playing in as a child. I love walking in every morning to that familiar place, especially knowing my children are experiencing part of my history when they look at the beautiful murals on the ceilings and walk down the stairs and see the sun shining through the stained glass. I choose to focus my work on making changes to improve the confidence of my clients through treatments which are result and change oriented, but I love that I get to do it in a place that has always stayed the same.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is never easy juggling three children, a new business and a home. The amount of things which pile up can sometimes seem insurmountable, but all I have to do is remember the things which brought me here, and the rewards I get every time I see my children’s faces or a client hugs me and I remember it is worth it. I’ve made it through 100% of the days of my life, and have seen some pretty amazing things. You don’t know what you’re made of until the pressure is high enough that you crack a bit and see inside to your strength.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I enjoy a lot of privilege. I was born into a family where my passions and interests were celebrated and encouraged and I was able to do things which fostered my abilities. I had many opportunities to learn and succeed because of that privilege. Sometimes I had to push through difficulties and challenges and it took a strong work ethic and determination, but I had a massive support network helping me out and cheering me on.
