Today we’d like to introduce you to David Gampher.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was working on an associate’s degree in nursing in the late 80″s.
I was not convinced I was cut out to be an RN, I withdrew from the program and spent the next 5 years bouncing between Dallas and a small town in Missouri outside of Jefferson City. I decided to clean up and get serious my first stop was working for Dougherty’s pharmacy/medical supply. This is where Sheila keen and Ken Wilson taught me about the industry. I spent about 5 years learning from them. My father became ill and passed away in march of 1998. I inherited some money from him. This was enough to cover the costs of opening up my own medical supply business, I incorporated in December of 1998. I have been working hard to provide solutions for the people that need medical supplies in the Dallas FT Worth area. We now have two showrooms to serve the public one in Bedford Texas and the original store in Rowlett Texas.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This business is anything but a “‘smooth road” Arguments between the original principles about business strategies led to court a court battle. I managed to buy the partner out. The second year found me running out of money, the company was on credit hold with several vendors, my credit cards were maxed out. I continued to show up and hustle to try and generate business for the company. I eventually got the vendors paid and managed to get above water before the year ended and we finished in the black.
I remember thinking “this is what they mean by blood sweat and tears” I would bloody my hands doing repairs, fights about policies and strategies led to tears. Working deliveries and doing equipment installs in the Texas heat goes without saying when it comes to sweat. We are in a fight for market share and every day we compete with global players for every sale.
ACG Medical Supply – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ACG Medical Supply provides medical supplies for the home. we repair home medical equipment and we rent equipment. I am proud of the staff they are constantly getting praises from the people they help on the phone and in person. The service we provide, free home demo on many products, we have free service and maintenance in the store. and a liberal return policy,
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We are successful when we are able to improve some one’s life with information or equipment. It’s that simple.
