Meet Adelaida Diaz-Roa of Pawliday Inn in Cedars

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adelaida Diaz-Roa.

Adelaida, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started in an entrepreneurship class I was taking in my last semester at SMU. We were asked to come up with a business plan as our big project for the semester. One of the ways we were taught to look for ideas was to look at our credit card statements and see where/ what we are spending the most on. Long story short: I spoil my dog like crazy. After making that little discovery we looked more into the pet industry and it was the seed that started Pawliday. Once the semester was over, I ran this idea by my mom (who LOVES dogs) and she jumped right on so we partnered up and opened up shop!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At the beginning it was a little slow, just getting your name out there was a lot of work, but once we figured out the best ways to do so it’s been easier. Now we get most of our new guests through word-of-mouth from our amazing customers <3

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pawliday Inn – what should we know?
At Pawliday Inn, our mission is to provide a friendly and welcoming environment where your pets get to play with other friendly dogs. We strive to foster a social environment for both pets and their owners in the Dallas area. We keep pet owners at ease with custom updates on how their pet is doing. We do this by providing the best customer service in the pet industry and making sure every pet leaves a little happier than when they came in. At Pawliday Inn, we treat each pup as if they were our own. We love getting to know their personalities and watching puppy friendship be made. Something that makes us unique is our daily snapchats. Our customers love getting these throughout the day.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Fleetwood Hicks was a great mentor for me. We met my freshman year at SMU just as he was starting Villy Customs and as I was looking for an internship. We ended up working together for over three years. I learned a lot about marketing and business from working with him at Villy Customs. Also, of course, my family for always being so supportive and helpful.
