Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Jennings.
Adrienne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in May 2003. I began my practice of dentistry and immensely enjoyed helping people to improve their smile. Throughout the years of practicing dentistry, I vaguely considered owning my own dental practice. I desired a place where I could treat my patients and provide them with the care that they desired and deserved.
I was afforded the opportunity to embark upon practice ownership in 2016, after 13 years of practicing dentistry. I purchased an existing dental practice where I was working as an associate dentist. As the patients were already familiar with me as their dental provider, it made the transition into ownership a bit more seamless from a practitioner standpoint. I soon came to learn that practice ownership had many other facets that had nothing to do with treating patients.
This past year has been filled with learning the business of dentistry all while balancing patient care and family obligations outside of work hours. I feel blessed to have this opportunity and am eager to continue learning and growing my practice to be a place that my patients can be proud to call their dental home.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road has been far from smooth. Dental school teaches you about clinical dentistry and patient treatment. As a student, we only took one business class. In an attempt to embark upon ownership, the term “baptism by fire” comes to mind. Often times, there is no way to know if something will work or not until you try it and succeed or try it and fail. My first year was a roller coaster ride of successes and failures. The first year was also filled with the frustration of feeling there was never enough time in a day to accomplish all that needed to be done. In the end, you learn to juggle everything and delegate the things that you cannot handle.
Dentistry on Western Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is named Dentistry on Western Center. I am a general dentist and I practice family dentistry on patients of all ages. In our office, we are all moms so we can treat children with love and compassion and we can extend that same level of empathy to our adult patients. Our goal is to make our patients comfortable in our office. We don’t want our patients to be afraid to visit the dentist. Our patients are an extension of our work family and we strive to make sure everyone is comfortable with all aspects of their treatment.
We are warm and welcoming to everyone. Dr Jennings never meets a stranger. If you walk into our office, its quite normal for her to begin talking to you as though she’s known you for forever or to offer you something cool to drink on a hot Texas day. You may come into the office as a fearful new patient, but you will leave with a dentist that you can consider a friend.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is setting definitive goals and achieving them. At the end of the day, I am looking to grow my practice into something which my staff, my patients and I can be proud.
