Meet Chanel Quins of Aesthetics, Massage & Wellness in DFW/Cedar Hill/Duncanville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Quins.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Tacoma, WA, where my mother owned multiple salons and I was always surrounded by beauty, wellness, and self-preservation. At the age of 16, my aunt introduced me to a skincare line called Senaria, and within a year she taught me how to create and complete a successful skin and wellness event. At that point, my desire grew stronger for skincare. I discovered my passion to heal and had a love for providing a relaxing and safe environment for others to release stress. It was then that I realized my purpose.

My lifelong journey to health and wellness began in 2009 when I received my Aesthetician License. I decided to further my education and training, gain more experience, and to specialize in specific modalities. I relocated but went back to Washington from 2011-2013 where I attended school in Washington State for Massage Therapy, and I obtained my Massage Therapy License. With my license, I was able to open my first Spa in downtown Tacoma.  At the end of 2013, I moved back to Dallas, Texas, opened a small suite and continued my practice as a dual-licensed therapist providing both aesthetics and massage in the DFW and surrounding areas.

My desire for the industry grew even stronger and I decided to further my education once more and become an Aesthetic Instructor. I taught a little over a year and was promoted to Clinic Manager, overseeing students in both Aesthetics and Massage Therapy. My responsibilities equipped me with a profound learning experience, and I gained skills such as: managing completion of state documents, customer service training, and student hands-on hours for graduation. During my time as Clinic Manager, I learned the downfall of the business as well. I experienced a shortage in the Aesthetic Department which introduced me to a life of burn out. I quickly developed the ability to say no when needed, and how to incorporate my own self-care. Working seven days a week as an Aesthetics Instructor and Clinic Manager with limited breaks and time off, I started missing my sons more, and the lack of family time provided clarity in which forced me to make a decision. I had to let that position go.  I almost allowed my job to destroy my passion. Even at that moment, I knew no matter what, Aesthetics and Massage iswho I am and I could not see myself doing anything else.

At this moment, I discovered an entrepreneur spirit that propelled me into my next steps. I decided moving forward, I wouldn’t work for anyone else unless I chose to. So, as you probably guessed already, I went back to school at the end of 2016 and began studies in Medical Aesthetics and Massage. This allowed me to focus on advance sports maintenance/recovery, chiropractic care, post-surgery recovery, and liposuction recovery. So far, this journey has been amazing and has brought so much joy to my life! I am blessed to not only work alongside chiropractors, naturopath doctors, cosmetic surgeons, and physical therapists, but I get to provide and receive referrals, work on my own time, make my own schedule and set my pay rate. I love what I do, I love who I am, and I am excited for what God has in store for my future!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If the road was smooth everyone would be doing it. I use to keep my testimony to myself because I had the mindset of: “it’s no one’s business”, however, I have learned that sharing my testimony helps others. My spiritual journey has taught me that God chooses his strongest soldiers for the toughest battles. I believe if I can save, heal or encourage one person, I have conquered, endured and survived through my pain with a purpose. I have learned that if I strive to save, heal or encourage more, I have done His will! My parents have taught me to go through struggle gracefully, stay prayerful and use my resources. Instead of picking apart the painful times in life, I think to myself, I must be going through this to help someone else.

The world tends to minimize the struggle of others and make their own conclusions on what defines a hard or easy life. Once you understand that everyone tolerates struggle, pain, debt, loss in any capacity, divorce, death of child or parent, etc., your compassion level changes. I married young for love using my entire heart and excluding my head and it eventually ended in divorce. Due to my misfire on what I thought would be forever, I had to pull strength from places I never knew existed. With my strength, I was able to continue to take care of my two boys on my own. The transition of being a wife for 15 years to a single mother is one of the hardest transitions I’ve ever encountered. At times, the pain seemed unbearable, but I thank God every day for the strength and power that was given to me and exceeding the expectations of where I thought I would be after the divorce. What most fail to understand is that, when one feels extreme emotional pain, the same areas of the brain are activated as when one feels physical pain. To literally feel like you are dying and still be blessed with favor and success is an act of God and I am ever so grateful.

During my time of entrepreneurship, learning, and growing, I have experienced a tremendous amount of loss but kept going. I had to learn to transfer my pain into power and use that energy to push through every obstacle without giving in. I encourage any and everyone to crush your goals, live your truth and help others along the way. One fact that remains true, you will not be able to give your all if you are not whole yourself! I’ve always believed in and promoted self-love, self-worth, self-preservation, and self-care. The way we view, treat and carry ourselves has more power than you can imagine so never underestimate the power you have!
