Today we’d like to introduce you to Labeaud Colbert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Labeaud. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was one of those people who was always told I should try to model. Eventually, I tried and was turned down by several agencies due to height and weight requirements. At some point, I realized that there was more to modeling than runway.
I started with local photographers and worked my way up. After a while of submitting I found myself interested in doing more than modeling. I wanted to do ambassador work, commercials, etc. At the time I was working as a personal trainer and restaurant manager. I had also been an author for several years.
I used my modeling photos to apply for acting background here and there. I honestly never thought about serious acting. At the most, I felt like I’d become a commercial actress. I had no idea that I would be doing all that I’m doing, especially so quickly. I’m a pretty strategic person. So yes I purposefully went after it however on the outside it appears that it all just fell into my lap.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a smooth road. People are going to hate me for saying that but the most I’ve struggled with is the common rejection actors face due to not knowing how to go after the right types of roles. At first, I auditioned for everything but it didn’t take me long to realize that there was a smarter way to go about it.
Financially I faced obstacles transitioning out of my precious jobs. Eventually, I secured regular brand ambassador work on top of my regular and temporary acting gigs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is Labeaud Productions. We’re a network of local film professionals that do volunteer work for each other. We help each other on individual and joint projects. I’m most proud of my crew for our project ImmortalZ. It’s a feature film that I wrote and star in. I have some amazing people on my team. We’re most known for this film even though it’s not finished. Many of our peers are excited about seeing it. What sets us apart is integrity and humility. Everyone on my team is so talented yet so humble. They mean what they say and do it. We are finishers and I’m sure our peers can see it.
What were you like growing up?
I was a really goofy kid. I was into dancing, singing, art and playing guitar and piano. I wasn’t a great student and I was bullied a lot. I was pretty animated and annoyed everyone. I could write really well though, like an adult. Everyone knew I would someday be a writer.
