Meet Aimee Robinson of Blown Away Adventures in Garland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Robinson.

Aimee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Blown Away Adventures started off as a dream that quickly turned into reality. Even though this vision for our amazing organization started off as a dream, it was tied closely to our Founder, Aimee Robinson’s childhood upbringing. As a child, Aimee was raised by a hard-working single mother who worked in a factory within their small town of Wilmington, Ohio. Money was always extremely tight, but that never stopped her mother from making her birthday a “Big Deal.” Faced with many obstacles, her mother worked many long days to make sure her birthday was memorable. And, even still with those long days, and not much money made, her birthdays were still a success!

If you’ve ever been to one of Aimee’s birthday parties in the backyard of her childhood home, you knew you were going to have a great time, win great prizes, and have some great homemade cake! Every year, her birthday’s consisted of neighborhood kids, family, outdoor fun, prizes, cake, ice cream, and so much more. The “outdoor fun” was always the highlight of the party with the sack races, water balloon toss, egg on the spoon races, musical chairs, and so many other outdoor games, which always brought a lot of laughter. Even without what some would call a lavish birthday party, she and her party friends always had a blast! Being at her birthday parties, you would never know that money was ever an issue because there was everything that you would typically see at a birthday party, plus a lot of love and laughter which made her parties even better.

And, this is exactly what Blown Away Adventures intends to do; provide a birthday celebration for families who are unable to do so due to financial restraints or life circumstances. We know that parents love to celebrate their child especially on their birthday, and Blown Away Adventures wants to help them create that happiness and those beautiful memories for their child. We are here to make sure those fun times, those unforgettable moments, for those special days happen! All things for a great birthday!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
LOL Definitely not! Keeping up with all that it takes to operate a nonprofit – paperwork, organization, training, meetings, etc., always staying in the know, and balancing family/friends, nonprofit work, and a full-time job along with trying accomplish other business adventures.

Blown Away Adventures – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Blown Away Adventures celebrates birthdays for less fortunate children in Dallas-Fort Worth. What makes me proud is the sheer joy that comes from our children and parents. The feeling is unbelievable. What sets us apart is that we work directly with parents/guardians to customize/personalize each gift, balloons, and cake/cupcakes. We spend a lot of time communicating and keeping the parents in the loop. We truly treat this like it is a “Surprise.”

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Board Members – CaLandra James and Denyne Edwards, and previous Board Members. They all have really help push the organization along. My Mom, Valrie Robinson, who showed me that you don’t have to have a lavish birthday to create lifetime memories. Many Nonprofit Consultants who helped, taught, reviewed, trained, and put me in a good place to make Blown Away Adventures successful. Special shout out to Nonprofit Consultant, Tiffany Allen, for not only the training but just being available when times called special conversations. The many Founders that I met along the way who have shared information helped work out an issue, trained with me, laughed with me, and just been extremely personable and helpful. I can really go on and on listing people specifically because it truly takes a village!
