Meet Aimee Thompson of Counseling for Hope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Thompson.

Aimee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I sit in a sacred space, as a woman opens up to me. I admire her strength, knowing she doesn’t see it. She’s a survivor. God sees her. I see her and am in awe by how I got to this most precious of places.

Painful life experiences impact people in profound ways and distort our relationship with ourselves and others. I’ve always been curious about thoughts, emotions, behavior, and relationships. I want to come along beside, support, equip, and facilitate change for each client I work with. I’m called to minister to those impacted by pain.

-Hope lives in my office.
-Hope for understanding and compassion.
-Hope for a different perspective.
-Hope for less emotional pain.
-Hope for personal acceptance.
-Hope for changed beliefs.
-Hope for an encounter with God.
-Hope for something different.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve had my own long seasons of intense physical pain, loss, relationship struggles, and parenting challenges. All of these shaped who I am now and how I counsel other fellow strugglers.

I’m a wife and mom first. This meant waiting until my kids were older, to embark on graduate school and all work required to become a licensed counselor.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Counseling for Hope story. Tell us more about the business.
I have a passion and heart for hurting women and teen girls who are:
-Hurt in their relationships
-Impacted by abuse and trauma
-Frozen by anxiety or depression
-Struggle with church ministry
-Questioning their value and worth

I know healing is possible and hope is real. Counseling helps. I provide a safe, space for women to be seen, heard, and valued. My goal is empowerment. Empowering them with new skills, new knowledge, a new perspective, and trauma healing. I believe healing involves the body, mind, heart, soul, and spirit and I utilize a variety of techniques, including EMDR, and creativity to accomplish this.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Anxiety, depression, stress, and family dysfunction are on the rise in America. According to the National Institute for Mental Health, approximately, one in four adults experience a mental health disorder in a given year.

This means now more than ever; we need compassionate, competent, and effective counselors to provide the necessary support, education, skills, and healing needed to address and prevent the mental and emotional pain that many are living with.
